"I want to go with you." I told Bjorn as we sparred.
My shield went up to block a blow from his sword.
"What?" He asked me.
"I want to go with you to the Mediterranean." I said again. His sword almost hit me as I spoke but I quickly dodged it, kicking him back.
"I thought you didn't want to leave Kattegat." He noted.
"I'm sure Lagertha will understand." I shrugged.
"And are you sure this has nothing to do with your marriage?" And with that, he hit me with his shield and sent me toppling onto the hard ground.
"I- uhm- so you heard about that?" I gave out a coy grin."Do you love him?" He asked.
"I-I don't... I don't know." I shifted awkwardly under his judgmental gaze.
"That is usually something you have figured out by the time you marry someone." Bjorn frowned.
"Fine. Yes, I love him." I lied.
"Then I'm happy for you." Bjorn said plainly and cheerfully, throwing his sword to the ground.
"You're what?" I asked, unsure whether I'd actually misheard him.
"I'm happy for you. But if he hurts you, I will make sure his last moments are agonizing." Bjorn shrugged casually.
I smiled at his comment."You're taking the weapons inside." He walked away.
I mentally slapped myself. For Freya's sake!
I walked into the Great Hall, a cheerful smile plastered onto my face. My smile faltered when I saw Margrethe awkwardly perched on Ivar's lap as he smiled at her lovingly.
"Aneira!" Aslaug greeted cheerfully.
"Queen Aslaug." I smiled in return, sitting beside Hvitserk. My eyes lingered on the pair that sat before me, unintentionally glaring at Ivar. Margrethe looked so uncomfortable and... Scared... It was almost laughable.
"Where's Sigurd?" My eyebrow rose.
They all went silent, Hvitserk leaning over to me to whisper what had happened, "Him and Ivar had another disagreement about Margrethe." He explained.
I nodded, understandingly. "A lot of fuss over one girl." I chuckled back to him.
"I'm sure you would be used to that" He smirked, nudging my arm.
I merely chuckled at his response, playfully hitting his shoulder, "You're an idiot."
"An idiot in love." He replied with a grin.
"Are you talking about me or Margrethe." I queried, raising a brow once more.He stuttered his response, looking at me unsure for a moment, "What's the right answer to that?"
"There is none." I winked.
At this point, Ubbe decided to join our hushed conversation with a harty laugh, patting his brothers shoulder. "Keep digging yourself a hole brother." He walked over to get himself some more mead. I chuckled in response.
"So, when are you and Bjorn setting sale?" I asked Hvitserk with a smile, making him look a little less terrified.
"Two days from now." He announced.
"Well, I wish you the best of luck. Skól!" I spoke cheerfully. Everyone raised their cups, everyone but Ivar who just watched us all with his pet on his lap.
"As lovely as it always is seeing you idiots, I must go and meet with one of my Shieldmaiden. See you soon." I higher Hvitserk and Ubbe goodbye before departing.
So, this was Ivar getting bitter. Fun.
I walked over to Hilda, watching her and Torvi fight eachother. Both fought fiercely with their blades, though that was not Torvi's weapon of choice. She had always been exceptional with her crossbow. Hilda, on the other hand, was an exceptional archer. There was no target her long bow could not reach. Combined, their long distance skills were unstoppable.
I stood with a smile, watching them fight with swords in their hands until Torvi finally knocked Hilda to the ground. I clapped them both, happy to see the two fighting so fiercely.
"May I have a word with Hilda, Torvi?" I asked.
"Is this the kind of news that I don't want to be around to hear?" She smirked.
I nodded and she left with a laugh. I couldn't help but love her.
"Hilda! Any news from Lagertha?" I asked.
"She is going to attack while the men are fighting with Bjorn." Hilda explained.
"And what of the brothers? Ubbe, Sigurd and Ivar?" I questioned.
"She already has plants to take care of Ubbe and Sigurd. Apparently, Ivar has other arrangements. " Hilda told me, wiping sweat from her brow.
I gawked, "What do you mean, other arrangements?"
"Haven't you heard? Ivar is going with his father back to England!"I looked at her, confusion contorting my face, "Ragnar?"
"Yes, he came back the other day, did you not hear?" she wondered.
"No... No I... Wait. Ivar is going to England? On a boat? In the middle of the ocean?" I fretted.
"Yes." She confirmed.
"The idiot can't even swim!" I exasperated.
That boy. Was he trying to get himself killed?!
