Chapter 20:

Mike's Point of View:

"Y'think he's gonna be able to get her to talk?" Ashley asked as we all watched Matt try and get Sandra to talk.

"'Course he will," I said as we watched, Jenna watching as well. "This' Matt we're talkin' 'bout. He gets anyone to talk just by lookin' at 'em."

Jenna looked to me, making me look at her.

"Why're people intimidated by him?" she asked, making Jinxx and Ashley look at her as well.

We all exchanged looks before Jinxx spoke.

"He can get very intimidating," he said, making her look to him. "He's a bit scary if you don't know this side of him. Most people know the other side of him."

Jenna frowned, so I tried to explain further.

"Up until a specific incident last term, Matt was always one of the most 'popular' guys," I said, making her frown again. "People still freak out about him and move outta his way or whatever, and they still don't mess with him 'cause they know what'll happen if they screw around."

"Right..." she said slowly.

I just shrugged and went back to watching Matt as he talked to Sandra.

"Hello? Earth to Mike?"

"Huh?" I said, looking over at Jinxx who'd spoken and was currently waving his hand in front of my face.

"Man, you're phone's been going off for a bit," he said, making me look down at my phone which was on the table in front of me. "You zoned out."

"Oh..." I said as I checked the caller ID to see it was dad calling. "Sorry guys, I've gotta take this."

They all just nodded as I picked up my phone and answered.

"Hello?"

"Sorry Mike, did I interrupt something?" dad said from the other end of the line.

"No, it's fine; I'm on lunch break," I said, the others watching me and making me shrug. "What's up? Everything alright?"

"Yes, it's very good in fact," he said, sounding happier than he had been lately. "Your mom wanted me to call to let you know that Vic's awake and he's asking for you."

I paused, making sure I'd heard him right.

"D-did you just say...?" I managed to say as I tried to keep down the excitement that was rising fast.

"You should come by after school to see him. He really wants to see you."

I couldn't stop myself from smiling, and the others saw something was up.

"Y-yeah, sure," I said happily. "Y'know I'll be there. Let him know I'll be stopping by after school?"

"Alright Mike," dad said. "I'll let him know. Mom will be there to show you where he is so you can be with him for a while."

"Ok, thanks dad. I'll see you later."

"Alright, I'll leave you to get back to class. I'll see you later."

He hung up and I put my phone down, Ashley and Jinxx waiting to hear what dad had just said to make me smile.

"Vic's awake," I said excitedly. "I'll go see him this afternoon."

Jinxx and Ashley looked at me for a few seconds, clearly unable to respond to that.

"Wow, that's just...awesome!" Ashley exclaimed, making all three of us jump at his sudden excitement. "Let us know how he is, yeah?"
