The bus trundled down towards Bramingwood Industries. "Please get me to this interview on time" I thought. So far none of the jobs I had applied for had contacted me back letting me know if I was short listed or asking if I was available for an interview. I decided to bring a copy of my CV to the interview and references from previous jobs including _one from the restaurant. Bob said it was the least he could do under the circumstances. No. The least you could do is to give me my job back and get rid of one of the blonde bimbos who's more interested in what colour she's going to paint her nails next, than actually do the job she's supposed to.
I decided not to dwell on the fact that I had no job, and no money and focus on the interview today.
Stepping off the bus and onto the pavement the bitter, cold air hit me. That's English weather for you. It's August and it's freezing. As I walked towards the towering intimidating building made out of curved glass and steel I read the large bold sleek lettering reading 'Bramingwood Industries' also made out of steel. They were hard to miss. I walked towards a very luxurious looking reception area. Sitting behind a large grey marble desk was a red haired woman with dark brown eyes and pale skin. She looked flawless. In fact now looking around everyone did. Nothing was out of place until I stepped in. Ever had the feeling that you've made a terrible mistake choosing your outfit after thinking it was a great idea but it's too late too change. Well that's how I'm feeling.
"Can I help you?" She asked with a fake smile. Maybe this was a mistake.
"Uh...yes...hi...um my name is Ivy Summers I received an invitation to a job interview with Chase Bramingwood". My palms were becoming clammy and I began feeling smaller than I actually was with so many eyes watching me.
"Right" she sighed. "Do you have this invitation?" she questioned, glaring at me like I was lying. I'll show this bitch.
"Yes I do, here you go". Shoving the invitation I received on Monday in her face. I had no idea where this sudden boost of confidence came from maybe it was the fact I was now seeing her widened eyes scanning over the letter.
"Oh my goodness I am so sorry I didn't mean to be so rude".
"Oh don't worry about it, but turn your nose down at me again and you'll be the one searching for a job". I whispered. Her mouth hung open and she looked dumbfounded. Dumb being the operative word.
"Well uh if - if you'd like to take the elevator up to floor twenty five, there will be a seating area outside Mr Bramingwood's office and you will be called in shortly" she stuttered. Pathetic.
"Thank you wasn't that hard was it... oh and by the way close your mouth you might catch flies" she quickly closed her mouth.
****
As the elevator began to rise so did my nerves. I quickly flicked through my folder checking to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything, although even if i had it would be too late now. I hugged the papers to my chest as the doors to the elevator opened revealing a large bright waiting room. Four comfy looking cream sofas occupied the room with a round glass table in the middle of the room on top of which were recent as well as this mornings newspaper and magazines. In the corner of the room was a water dispenser with small plastic cups with the words 'Bramingwoods Industries' on each one. This man had more money than sense. I mean who puts his company's name on plastic cups that are going to be thrown away after being used. I had worked myself up about the stupid plastic cups I hadn't noticed a desk with a blonde haired girl sitting behind it. I decided it would be only right to get her to let the great Chase Bramingwood I was here.
"Uh hi I'm Ivy Summers i was sent up here for my interview with Mr Bramingwood". She looked up from her computer screen and smiled. Not a fake one like the red headed bitch had done but a genuine smile.
"Oh of course, Miss Summers, if you would like to take a seat you'll be called in shortly". She pointed to one of the sofas. I decided to take advantage of her niceness to see if i could get my information out of her.
" Sorry i don't know your name but -"
"Oh god I'm so sorry i didn't introduce myself, I'm Kate" she answered.
"Ok um Kate i was wondering if you know what position I am being interviewed for. You see, on the invitation it just stated to attend for a job interview". I asked politely as possible.
"I'm afraid not I haven't been told anything either, as far as I was aware there wasn't any vacancy open apart from a cleaning job but that was filled a few weeks ago and besides you are far too pretty to clean". I couldn't hold back the smile that formed on my face and felt my cheeks heat up.
"Oh well... Um thanks... So are you.. Sorry" I quickly said flushing from embarrassment.
She giggled "Its alright, happens to me all the time. Wait! I mean getting embarrassed not from being called pretty" she quickly added before I could jump to any conclusion. We stared at each other before we both burst out laughing. The phone began to ring she quickly answered.
"Oh right I didn't realise that you would be taking the interview but ill let her know and send her in right in". She hung and looked up to me. "He is ready to see you in the office. Good luck". She gestured to the door behind me and smiled.
"Thank you". I took a deep breath and began walking to the other side of the room to the door of the office. The only sound I could hear was my heels clicking against the floor and my heavy breathing. I knocked three times and waited anxiously.
" Come in". I heard a deep voice from the other side of the door. As I turned the door handle and entered the office. The same feeling of confusion hit me just like when I received the invitation in the post. Something was off with this interview and I had a feeling this was not going to go the way I had hoped.
