Epilogue
Becca's P.O.V.
Tension. The whole hall was full of tension. My client, Mr Rodriguez, was shaking his right leg nervously and praying in Spanish. The audiece was whispering furiously something. I was focusing on the judge, waiting for him to say it. The verdict. My hand was on the table, easily scratching a portofolio. I was trying to keep calm, not showing to many emotions, but it was very, very hard. This was the most difficult case I worked on. I moved my eyes on the judge, hoping for an answer, but nothing. I looked down at my watch. 13:05. Oh, I was already late. i frowned at the black watch, hoping it would stop, but nothing. I cannot be late, not again! What are they going to say?
Suddenly, the judge cleared his throat. I snapped from my thoughts and looked at the judge who was looking straight into my eyes. I couldn't even breath and I think the audience couldn't either.
"Not guilty." the old judge finally said. I sighed relieved and turned to my client. He hugged me thight and thanked my with a huge grin on his face. I just nodded and shook our hands, trying to look not to excited. But, in my mind, I was jumping and doing the victory dance.
I stood up and walked towards the exit.
"Mrs Malik! Mrs Malik, wait a moment, please!" a old lady shouted. I stopped and turned around slowly. It was Mrs Rodriguez, my client's mother.
"Mrs Malik, thank you so much for helping my son. You are such a great lawyer!" she shook my hand.
"I was just doing my job. But next time, Mr Rodriguez should pay more attention when he'll buy milk again!" I laughed and waved the old woman. Poor lady, she almost fainted while I was interrogating a witness.
I continued my walk out of the court, saying 'Hello' and smiling to some of my lawyer-friends.
"Congratulations, Mrs Malik! I knew Mrs Rodriguez wasn't guilty." Jim, the security man waved me.
"We all knew it, I just had to prove it!" I waved back, almost runnig towards the car. I hopped in my Mini Cooper and started the engine. I looked quickly at the clock on my board. 13:15. Damn it, I have no time to change my clothes!
I drove down the street, turned left and followed the other indications Zayn gave me a few hours ago. There it is! I parked the car in the front of the medium building and rushed into the restaurant. It was big and very crowded. The spicy smell of tacos was alredy tickling my nose. I searched the room quickly and found the boys at a table, next to the window.
"Hey guys!" I greeted them as I kissed each of them on the cheek.
"Mommy!" the twins hugged me.
"Hi, babe! How was your day?" Zayn smiled.
"Oh, well... I won!" I started with a sad face, but then I did a mini- victory dance.
"I knew you would!"
"Yay, mommy won!" Ben cheered.
"But this doesn't explain why are you dressed so fancy!" Alex pointed at my navy suit and white shirt.
"Sorry, guys, I was late and I had no time to change my work clothes." I excused myself.
"Whatever..." Alex rolled his eyes. This guy is always surprising me.
"Hey mommy, we ordered you Tacos and Coke, hope you like it." Ben informed me. I looked down and I saw a plate with Tacos and a glass full of Coke.
"I love it!" I winked at him.
"Now" Zayn started raising his glass "I would like to make a toast. For Mommy." he looked at me, his eyes full of love.
"And for Daddy." I added, my eyes locked with his. I smiled and blushed a little as he grabbed my hand and squeezed it.
"And for Ben and Alex!" Ben raised his glass, too.
"And for the Cars!" Alex continued, playing with his Lighter McQueen toy.
"And for the Cars..." I laughed and hugged the 5 year-old twins.
After this, the boys told me and Zayn some new jokes they learned that day and, later, the boys started a food fight. I just watched them laughing and having fun. Oh, how I love my amazing boys!
