Nat's chest hurt, she hadn't ever- it was rare for her. To show her splinters like that.
She loved Wanda, and she couldn't bear the thought of living without her, not after it made her feel- not cracked again. Something she hadn't felt in a long time. Right. But she was so messy, and she- she didn't want to scare her, make her leave, because-
Because she knew that she wouldn't be able to survive that.
Her tears stopped falling, her face hot, her breathing heavy and ragged, each inhale taking an incredible amount of effort. She squeezed Wanda's hand, softly, just a tiny pressure that told her she was there, that she understood, that she was sorry.
They sat there for a while, in a blanketing silence, not a heavy, sad, or angry silence, but a tired one. A silence that conveyed everything and nothing at the same time. A silence built of fragmented sentences and countless minutes and the same little yellow pool of light that broke its way into their lives. Only it wasn't a yellow light that made Nat happy.
It was the beautiful
Graceful
Kind
Amazing person that she could look up and see, right then, likely with a curtain of scarlet hair framing her face, with her delicately perfect porcelain features that made Nat the happiest and luckiest person alive.
She must've fallen asleep like that, with her head in Wanda's lap, because the next thing she felt was her braiding her gross, uneven hair.
She blinked, looking up into Wanda's eyes.
A small smile spread across her face, "You also look cute when you're asleep."
She felt her face heat up.
"Wanda, you know I love you, right?"
Another smile, "It's good to hear the words again.."
She kissed her. Sitting up, clumsy, crashing her lips into Wanda's, but she kissed her, for the first time in eight months.
Her mind was everywhere and nowhere in that moment.
She felt Wanda's eyelashes on her cheek, and she, for some unknown reason, was acutely aware of the fact that her lips were cracked against Wanda's, but neither of them seemed to care. She moved a hand up and rested it on her waist.
