Wanda felt her heart jump in her throat.
The doctor lowered his gaze, "I'm sorry.."
"I-"
"She should wake up soon.. but we don't know what- i'm sorry.."
She managed a numb mumble, "O-okay..."
He responded with a solemn nod and an attending came over to take him to his next patient. Wanda sat again, his words on loop in her mind.
She hadn't noticed Clint sit down, and barely noticed him start the pat her back.
"Hey Wanda..."
She sighed, "Hi..."
"You okay?"
"I-I dunno.. I'm worried.."
He nodded, "It'll be okay."
"I- are- are you sure?"
"I- yeah, mostly- Nat's too stubborn to die."
She laughed softly, "Sounds like her..."
He looked at her, smiling slightly, "She really missed you, y'know."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
She smiled a little.
"She'll be okay."
"O-Okay..."
They sat in a heavy, blanketing, uneasy silence for the better part of twenty minutes. Clint was half asleep, and Wanda felt like crying again. Then Natasha started to cough.
Wanda looked up, "Tasha?"
Her voice was soft. Raw. Hoarse.
"Hey Wanda."
She rushed over to her, "Are you okay??"
Tasha started to laugh, then winced, and started to cough again.
Wanda gave her a worried look.
"I'm fine Wanda, you can stop looking at me like I'm broken."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah yeah yeah."
"Okay..."
"I'm fine Wanda."
"Okay..."
She coughed again, holding her side. Wanda pushed the hair out of her face and kissed her forehead. She started coughing again, then doubled over and winced.
"I- I should get the doctor."
"No, Wan-"
She left, trying to find the doctor.
As she left, Tasha sighed, "Wanda.."
She came back with the doctor.
Natasha had doubled over and started coughing again.
She looked up and sighed, her green eyes watery and bloodshot, "Wan-"
"Don't even try to convince me that you're fine Tasha, I know you're not."
"I'm fine Wanda."
"No, you're not."
"Yes I am. I'm fine."
"You're not."
"I am!" She doubled over coughing again.
Wanda gave her a concerned look, "Please, just let him run some tests or something."
She sighed, "If it'll make you feel better..."
"It will."
"Fine..."
"Thank you."
She rolled her eyes, and the corner of her mouth pulled up slightly in a smirk, (it was one of the many things about Tasha that turned her on.) (but she'd never admit it.) "Just 'cause I love you..."
That made Wanda smile a little, which garnered a sideways grin from Natasha.
Wanda cupped one of her cheeks with her hand, it was warm, but Tasha was always warm, and kissed her.
She started to kiss back, but pulled away quickly and doubled over again.
Wanda gave her another worried look.
She reached up and cupped one side of her face, brushing her thumb lightly against her cheek, "I'm okay."
Wanda lifted her hand and put it over Tasha's, "Okay.."
"Okay." She moved her hand and tucked some hair behind Wanda's ear.
