"Please?" Wanda pleaded with Natasha. Heaven knew what condition she was in, and fighting? Out of the question. If anything happened to her.. Wanda pushes the thought from her mind.

"I-"

"For me?" She was grasping at straws. She couldn't stand it if anything happened to Natasha... Already a guilty feeling was settling in her stomach for not going with Tasha back at the movies.. If she'd gone.. They wouldn't be here. They'd be out. Walking. In the park. Or skating..

It was all her fault.

"I don't- I wanna do something! A-And what if you get hurt.." The second part of the sentence was softer, more loaded with raw emotion. Seeing Tasha like this pulled at her. She wanted to take everything from her and bear it herself. She deserved it. Not Natasha.

"I won't."

Tasha's brow wrinkled, "But-"

She lifted her chin slightly and met her lips to Tasha's, her skin warm and clammy, her lips cracked, her eyelashes fluttering. Wanda thought it was beautiful. Nothing else ever fluttered. Just butterflies and eyelashes. Her heart raced, she knew that she had to go to give the Avengers more back up. But, at the same time, a part of her wanted to crawl into that hospital bed with Natasha, to feel her warmth next to her own, to close the space where she ended and Tasha began. She desperately wanted to, but she knew she couldn't. There was a momentary silence, hung with all the fragmented sentences she'd started, but couldn't finish with her mind buzzing like this.

She'd just gotten Natasha back.

And she wouldn't give her up this easily.

If she could help it, she wouldn't give her up at all.

So, in the silence, filled with emptiness and promise and despair and hope and fragments of sentences that would never see the light of day, and a blanketing heaviness that covered them both in infinite 'what-if's, Wanda said two words, just two, shattering the silence and breaking the heaviness and pulling them both back to the reality neither of them wanted.

"I promise."
