I woke up the next morning to the bright sun beaming on my face. I rolled over onto my back, lifting up the shirt I was wearing to see the twins moving.

“They’re sure hyper this morning.” I said to myself, looking over at the alarm clock, it was six thirty. “It’s way to early for me to get up.” I looked over to my left to see Nathan still sleeping. His face dug deep into his pillow, he was laying on his stomach. To me, he just looked uncomfortable, I could never sleep like that, especially being pregnant.

I reached over to the nightstand picking up Nathan’s phone, I never gotten mine fixed, but I really should sometime soon. I went into the calendar on his phone.

“I knew it! I was officially six months yesterday.” That making me twenty three weeks. I put down his phone as I got up to go pee. “Dammit Dalton, you’re kicking mommy’s bladder!”  thank god the bathroom is right across from the bedroom!

Later that day, right after lunch, Chris called the house, telling Nathan & I they’d be over. He didn’t specify who “they” were, I figured it was either him and Vivian, or him, Vivian, and the family.

“Do you think your mom will be coming over?” Nathan asked me as we were picking up around the house.

“Maybe, I’m not sure. I don’t think so honestly.” I stood straight up, feeling a pain in my lower back. “Damn kids.” I whispered looking down at my huge baby bump.

“Have you even talked to her?” He walked over to me, helping me sit down on the couch.

“No, but I tried a few times. She never picks up.” I shrugged. “Ever since I was young, no matter what I did, it was good enough to please her.”

“Don’t talk like that.” He sat down next to me, kissing my cheek, putting his arm over my shoulder.

“It’s true though.” I took my hair out of its pony tail. “I’m use to it, it’s fine.” I looked over at him, he just rolled his eyes.

“I think you and her need to talk. If she’s sick-”

“I get it. She could die soon, and I’d never get the chance to say I’m sorry.” He nodded, not saying a word. I ran my fingers through my hair, feeling pressure behind my eyes from holding back the tears.

“Are you okay babe?” I just shook my head yes, still not saying anything. In my head, and I could picture was my mom laying in a coffin and all the things I never got the chance to say. “Sorry I brought it up.”

“Don’t be, it’s okay.”

“It’s not your fault.”

“Yeah.” I agreed only to shut him up. I forced myself off the couch, walking into the kitchen to get a drink of water.

“Jackie-” Nathan said, getting cut off my the loud knock on the door. “I’ll get it.” He stood up, walking towards the door. I walked back to the couch with my bottle of water.

“Auntie!” I heard loud feet snaking against the floor.

“Hey Brook!” She jumped on my lap. “I missed you.” I kissed her forehead.

“I missed you more.” she said in an innocent voice. “Can I see your belly?” she smiled tugging at my shirt. I looked over to my right to see Chris, my mom, and Vivian standing there.

“Where’s everyone else?”

“It’s just us.” Chris said “Brook wanted to see you.”
