Chapter 6: Mercy

Levi's POV

The next day, Erwin announced the new rule along with a mission outside the walls.

I put on my uniforms and went outside, untied the horses and hop on it. I stayed silent, thinking about the plan we've agreed to.

Was that a good choice? Or we will just have to prove it to him that it was a bad idea?

I made my decision but didn't tell it to anyone. I waited for my squad.

They hop on their horses and went over to me. "We're ready!", they proclaimed.

I nodded slightly and started the horse as it walks towards the gate. Erwin and his group was already there. They were talking about the rule.

Hanji and Mike seems to disagree with Erwin. They think it's cruel. But they couldn't do anything.

I went over to them.

"Oi Levi! How's it going?!", Hanji said with another big smile on her face.

"Fine if it wasn't for a cruel person.", I said as I glanced at Erwin. He seem to get the message. He just stayed silent.

The gates have opened and the horses went and galloped ahead. I once again felt the soft, cold breeze through my face...

Eren's POV

I followed Captain Levi from behind. I can see his eyes staring angrily at Erwin who was right infront of him from a distance.

I looked around. Scouts seem to disagree with the rule. They looked afraid.

Just then, titans came towards us from all directions. I gulped. I looked over at Levi, waiting for a command.

He stayed quiet and so did Erwin who was right ahead of us. The titans were gaining on us in all directions!!!

I'd be glad to hear a command but all of them stood silent there.

What are they doing?!

I took a deep breath. When the titans were literally at our reach, Levi suddenly hooked his wires up into a titan's nape and managed to cut five titan napes in the process.

Erwin, on the other hand, just went on ahead as the other scouts kill the remaining titans. Us members of Levi squad also stayed at our places.

Levi's POV

I managed to kill more titans. I looked over at Erwin and saw him did nothing.

So you're really into this rule of yours Erwin...

I landed safely back on my horse and continued ahead.

I don't care if my members did not move an inch. We have a plan to follow. And I'm impressed that Eren is following it.

I stared angrily at Erwin who was infront of us. Hanji managed to go beside me.

"I don't think any of this is a good idea.", she whispered.

Before I can reply, Erwin called her to hurry up.

Does he know what we're up to?

I took a deep breath as I saw more titans ahead.

Now's the time...

I looked behind at my squad and they nodded slightly, knowing my orders.

The titans headed towards us.

"Levi! Take care of these creatures! Me, Hanji and Mike will go ahead!", Erwin commanded.

I ignored it. Me and my squad split up to left and right leaving Erwin and the others heading straight to the titan.

"Levi what are you doing?!", shouted Erwin.

My eyes were focused ahead. I whispered to Eren, "Take care of Hanji and Mike. Let Erwin go on his own.". He nodded.

When the titan was about to grab the three of them, Eren and Mikasa took Hanji and Mike quickly, leaving Erwin.

"Brats!", Erwin exclaimed.

Eren's POV

I put Hanji down on my horse and hop on too, following Levi with Mikasa.

I looked back at Erwin and he has already drawn his blades. Before he can attack, the titan slapped him off his horse and he fell on the ground, losing grip on his blades.

The titan grabbed him and stared at him as he struggled. I couldn't watch. I looked back ahead at Levi. I can hear Erwin cry out for help. Captain doesn't seem to care.

"We're 'following' rules Erwin!!!", Levi shouted.

He was still crying for help...

Levi's POV

We didn't get that far and I still hear his screams. I remembered all those poor soldiers who died infront of my eyes. I felt pity.

I looked behind and the titan has already opened it's mouth. My grip on the reins tightened.

I think that's too much...

I pulled my blades out and turned around, hooking the wires at the titan. I slashed its nape off and Erwin went out of its grip.

I grabbed him and landed on the ground. My squad turned and headed back at us.

Erwin looked at me and still looks afraid.

"So", I began. "Still going with that rule?".

"Tch. You planned this."

"So? You need to be tought a lesson. Not in words. But experience."

He let out a sigh.

"We'll be heading back and abort the mission. You'll be going back on your own.", I said as I hop on my horse.

Me and my squad, along with Hanji and Mike, headed back, leaving Erwin behind...
