Chapter 3: Back Outside

Eren's POV

After burning the bodies of the honorable soldiers yesterday, the whole scouts went and rest for the day. But I couldn't sleep that time. Thoughts have filled my head...

The next day (today), I walked out of my room and sat on a chair, feeling quite lazy.

"Come on you guys! Clean up the headquarters before we go outside the walls!", I heard Levi proclaim.

"Can't we just do it tomorrow?", I said lazily as I rest my head on top of the table.

Levi took me by the hair and raised my head up.

"Are you saying "no" to cleaning?!", he said.

I gulped and stood up, shaking my head no and went to get a broom then began sweeping. I looked at him as he stood there with his arms crossed, looking a bit pissed by me....

Mikasa saw what happened and ran to Levi, pushing him hard. She looked at me.

"Are you okay Eren?", she said.

I groaned. "Mikasa... You didn't have to do that!"

After we finished cleaning, we put our uniforms on and headed outside. I smelled the fresh air as I sat on my horse.

"We're going to kill as many titans as we can today.", Levi said as he hop on his horse. "Better save your gas and blades for the better."

The horses walked towards the gate at a slow pace. I glanced around town while I still can. I thought of what it would look like if titans have took over...

It sent chills in my spine.

Levi's POV

I slightly looked at Eren. He was acting like that for the past hours since yesterday.

I feel like he already loss hope...

"Hey Eren.", I began.

He looked at me.

"I want you to kill titans later. Using the gear. No titan shifting for now.", I continued.

He nodded then went back on looking around town. I put my eyes back on the road again. It was peaceful today.

If he realize that he's strong, he might bring his courage back.

The gates opened and the horses ran outside quickly. I felt the cold breeze pass by me.

Eren's POV

I followed slowly from behind with Mikasa and Armin.

"Why do you think we have to kill as many titans as we can today? No mission?", Armin began.

"I think we should be decreasing the population of the titans.", Mikasa replied.

I don't even know and care so I just looked forward and focused on the road.

No titan shifting today..

We noticed titans up ahead. We took out our blades and charged forward. I hooked my wires at one and slashed its nape off. Blood splattered all over me. I landed on the ground and I looked back at the others who were slicing the napes off. They landed down next to me.

"The titans in the area seemed to decrease. I have a feeling Erwin and his group has went ahead early.", Levi said, hopping on his horse. "Come on. We better get going."

The rest of us went on our horses and followed Captain Levi who already started his horse and is away from us at the moment. We struggled to catch up with him.

Signal flares were fired around us. None seems to be an emergency.

"We'll only head to a flare once it's a distress signal...", Levi said.

We nodded.

Oddly, the path we were taking was clear. Not even a single roar of titan can be heard nor a body seen. Things went strange...

"Captain? Is it just me? Or is this area oddly cleared out?", I asked.

He just ignored it and continued ahead. I demanded an answer.

"Captain!"

He looked behind slightly...

Levi's POV

Looking behind, I knew he would want to know what the hell's going on. Even though it's nothing to worry about, I should still say it.

I opened my mouth to start talking.

"A lot more scouts have been in this area. I suspect them far far ahead from us."

I sense his grip on the reins tighten. "That doesn't make sense! Why won't titans come here?! Not even one!", he shouted.

"Eren I think it's best to stay silent.", Armin muttered.

"Come on Armin! I know you feel weird about it too!"

He looked back at me. "So tell me why?!"

"Squads have been sent outside the walls. They lured titans away from Erwin's path. If they managed to lure every single one of them here, I'll be expecting a signal fla---", my reply was cut as I hear a signal.

A distress signal...

Eren looked at it. "Let's go!", he shouted.

We can't. That's not in the plan...

"We must advance or we'll die Eren!", I shouted.

"You told us we'll go if it's a distress signal! Their lives depend on us now!", he exclaimed.

I felt the weight of the gas tank in my gear.

If we use it. It won't be enough for later...

"I know that Eren! But we have a plan to do and follow! Now eyes on the road."

"Are you not thinking?!", Eren once again exclaimed as another distress signal came from the same group. "They're dying! Are their lives worthless?!"

"Do you decide to help them and disgard the plan made to kill all the titans?!", I answered.

"That can wait!!!", Eren said.

Even if I do want to help, I don't want Erwin bringing our squad down...

Eren's POV

I turned my horse to the signal's direction.

Captain won't listen to me?? Oh I'll show him who's better.

"Eren wait!", I can hear Mikasa and Armin shout.

I continued, ignoring them.

I arrived at the area and saw a swarm of titans, fighting over a whole squad of scouts. They saw me and cried for help.

I made my way there faster. I hooked to a titan's nape and cut it off. Doing the same process to three more titans.

Just then, I notice my gas run out. I landed on the ground.

I have no gas left!!!

I looked behind me and saw two titans staring right at me. I stood there nervous. In my fear, I ran away but they were following me at a great speed.

I have no signal flares on me so I was left defenseless...

Help!!!
