Chapter 9: Sir can you do a task?

Eren's POV

Every scout woke up early in the morning and quickly got ready for the day. As I was putting my cape on, I took a glance at my friends. Some of them are scared, excited and brave.

Today's the day...

I finally put my cape on and I let out a sigh. I thought of what Armin said.

We wouldn't know what lies ahead...

I sat down, relaxing myself. Captain Levi sat next to me, sipping his morning tea.

"So brat.", he began. "Your wish has come true. You happy?"

"Well. Kind of. Sir.", I replied.

"What's wrong?"

"It's just that. What if we don't make it out alive?"

"Are you once again predicting your future Jeager?"

"I'm afraid yes Sir."

Levi put his hand over my shoulder.

"Relax.", he said.

I lowered my head. "Sir?"

"Yes?"

"Mind if I ask something?"

"Sure. What is it?"

I let out a sigh and slightly lowered my head more. "Do you mind if I ask a favor sir?"

"May I first ask why?"

"I won't know what lies ahead of us today. I want to make sure I accomplish my dream even if things went wrong."

"We don't know what would happen yet Jeager."

"But what if it happen?!"

"Well..."

"Please sir. Do me a favor."

"Fine... What is it."

"Well you see Captain, Armin showed me a book about what life's about outside. I'd like to see it. So my favor is that if I die in the battlefield, I want you sir to carry my body and show me an ocean before my body rot away. My spirit will remain so once you carry me away, I'll be able to see world's beauty."

"I see..... Go on."

"My next favor is... I want you to treat Mikasa as a sister. Like how I treat her. Don't let her feel down about my loss."

"Go ahead..."

"And last, I want Armin to see the world too. Once every titan's dead, I'd like him to see the world. Me, him and Mikasa should really be the one travelling together. But I like you to take my place sir."

"I see..."

"That's all. I hope it isn't too much."

"It's not. But listen to me Jeager."

"Yes sir?"

"I'll try my best to keep you alive. No matter what."

"But sir. You don't have to risk your life for me. I'm just a suicidal bastard."

"It doesn't matter for me Eren. You're a member of my squad. I don't care about my life if their lives are in danger. Listen kid you're important to me. And your friends. And you should also remember that our old squad members Petra, Oluo, Gunther and Eld wanted you to achieve your dream and reach it personally! Don't ruin your dream by a stupid prediction in your mind!"

His words has struck my heart. I felt his care about me. I burst into tears.

"Sir.", I continued.

"Eren..."

"Sir please... Don't let my dream fade!!! I'm sorry! I was a fool! I should be the one to MAKE the future! I was blinded by my thoughts!"

He knelt on one knee, patting my head as I fell to my knees. His touch was soft and gentle. I gently leaned my head towards his touch.

"Say kid. I'll fight by your side and keep you safe. Okay?", he whispered.

I smiled slightly but tears still streamed down my face.

"Y... Yes sir. Thanks...  And sir.."

"Hm?"

"You're the best sir..."

"Oh? Why thanks..."

I wiped my tears away and hugged Levi. He stayed still. 

"I'm sorry. I just needed a hug..."

"It's fine Eren."

He hugged me back. His body felt warm. I can sense no fear from him. He's brave and strong... I want to be like him.

"Sir I want to be brave like you..."

"A lot said that to me already... And thanks..."

We stood up and stopped. We hop on our horses and headed towards the gate. Levi looked at me with a slight warm smile. I smiled back.

"Jeager... It's time."

The gates opened....
