Chapter 12: Task

Levi's POV

It started to rain in the fields. The horse sprinted ahead, leaving my squad behind. They continued fighting the titans.

I can feel Eren's cold body resting on me. It got colder at the rain soaked us wet. The rain hid my tears...

The tears had made my vision blurred. I wiped my eyes, putting my arm back at the reins with the other carrying Eren. The road went slippier with mud and the horse often lose a few balance.

I heard rustling nearby...

I looked around for titans, hoping it was just the rain making a sound for I cannot fight titans at this state. Bad luck for me, a titan appeared from my side and I quickly turned the horse aside before it grabbed us. That was close...

The titan looked at us then slowly followed. I couldn't fight so I just made the horse sprint faster. I suddenly felt fear. Both for my life and Eren's task.

The titan slapped its hands at the horse, making me fall down the ground. I had a tight grip on Eren. I stood up and saw the titan staring at me with hunger in its eyes.

I gently put Eren down in a safe hidden place then took out my blades. I had no choice. The titan let out a roar. I quickly climbed on its body and reached for the nape and sliced it off. I immediately fell on the ground and was covered in mud. I moved a bit to avoid the falling titan.

Walking back, I carried Eren.

"Come on Eren. Let's continue.", I whispered, calling for the horse. It came back and I once again hop on it, heading again to the north... The atmosphere went cold.

After a while, I reached an ocean. It was beautiful. I never knew I'd see it.

After all that titan fight without gas, after all that suffering, I reached my location. I hop of the horse and layed Eren down on the sand.

"Here we are Eren...", I said, starting to cry again. "Welcome to the outside.."

I can see him smile... He was at peace...

"I-I'm sorry that you couldn't see this personally... or even with your friends. You could've have a great time."

I listened to silence... No answer...

I sighed...

"But hey! At least you saw it right?"

There was still no answer...

What am I expecting anyway...

The sound of the waves from the ocean filled the silence...

I stayed there for an hour and decided to head back. I don't feel the presence lf any titans anymore.

I carried Eren and hop on the horse once again then headed back to the walls. Like I felt, there were no more titans in sight...

What will I say to Mikasa???....

I saw the walls nearby and headed towards it.... I don't know what to do. The scouts were there waiting for me. It seems like some of my members told Erwin about it... tch...

I halted infront of Erwin.

"So Levi.", he started. "Who's this?"

"A beloved member....", I answered.

I saw Mikasa run towards us with a face of worry.

"Eren!", she said, grabbing Eren from me. "Eren you're wounded...". She felt Eren's cold body. "E-Eren?". She looked for a pulse but there was none. Her eyes widen and tears rolled from her eyes. "Eren!!!"

She turned at me. "Y-you... Why didn't you save him! You're his captain aren't you?! You're his idol aren't you?! If so, why didn't you save him?!"

"No one could save him okay?!", I yelled.

She looked for her blade then was about to strike at me but Erwin grabbed her hand...

"Look Mikasa. I don't care if you're close to him, but I have to tell you... You couldn't do something there when you're out of gas and injured!"

"Monster! Evil!"

I tried stopping myself from hitting her.

"Mikasa Ackerman please don't make my task hard... Eren told me to take care of you and love you as a sister. I wouldn't want to break it.."

"H-he... Asked you that?"

"Yes... Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be burning his body and set it free in the ocean breeze.."

I carried Eren's body again and headed forward....
