Joss' POV
My hands were actually trembling as I pressed the elevator button and waited for the elevator to take Bas and me to my condo unit on the top floor.
"You live on the top floor?" asked Bas, "doesn't it feel lonely to be so high up and away from the crowd?"
"It does get lonely sometimes," I agreed, "but I'm rarely home. I'm always working and when I get here I just go straight to sleep."
"You're lucky that you don't have insomnia." he said.
"I do get sleep problems sometimes," I said, "but a cup of hot chamomile tea does the trick for me most of the time."
When we got to the door of my unit, I was fumbling so much with my key card that it fell to the floor. I bent to pick it up but Bas was quicker and had retrieved it for me, but because my head was still bent, our lips almost touched when he straightened himself.
He moved away quickly with an awkward laugh.
"I'm sorry," I said with a nervous laugh, "I didn't mean for that to happen."
This time I managed to have my door opened and I held the door open for Bas.
He walked in with some hesitation, looking around my unit.
"Don't be shy," I said, "make yourself at home."
He walked towards the couch and started pressing on the TV remote while I went to my fridge and brought out a couple of beers.
"What kind of movie would you like to watch?" I asked, handing him one of the bottles.
"Thanks," he said, taking it and twisting the cap to open it. "I have nothing in mind. You choose."
I went through my list of purchased movies and chose a very old romcom starring Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney. Even if it was old I enjoyed the story so much that I found myself watching it very often.
I was happy to see that Bas was enjoying it as well and would make some funny comments from time to time.
He seemed to like the beer that I had given him because he finished it in no time so I went to fetch him another one.
By the time the movie ended he had finished almost five bottles and was giggling endlessly as he made all kinds of silly comments about the movie.
"Julianne was too kind," he said, "I wouldn't have given him away to Kimberly. I would have done all I could to win back Michael's love."
"If that sort of thing happened to you, would you really do that? Would you do everything in your power to win back the love of the person you love?" I asked, feeling a little tipsy myself.
He didn't answer. He was looking at me with an unfocused gaze. I could tell he was more than just tipsy now.
He reached out to touch my face.
"You're so good looking." he said, "you must have hundreds of girlfriends."
"I don't have a single one," I said, my heart skipping a beat as his hand traveled from my cheek to the side of my neck.
"I find that hard to believe," he whispered.
"Believe me, I stopped seeing girls after I ......" I paused. Should I tell him that I have fallen hard for him. Was now the the best time to say it, or should I wait for another opportunity.
"After you what?" he wanted me to finish my sentence but I found myself holding back.
"I think it's time for me to take you home," I said.
