"So what do you want us to do?" James says, wiping his mouth with the serviette.

"Let's go have ice cream," Ellie states excitedly.

"I could just tell someone to-"

Ellie shakes her head. "Or, we just go to the ice cream palour down the road."

"Multa!" he says, raising his hands in surrender.

"Don't pull that Spanish talk on us, mister," Darren says, smacking James on the arm.

"Come on. Let's go."

On cue, we all get up from our seats and walk towards the exit. Zane's opened the door for me, I give him a smile and slide in. Ellie was supposed to join us but she said she didn't want to intrude on some lovey dovey stuff.

"Are you okay?" Zane asks, putting on his seatbelt and starts the car.

"Yeah. I think getting out of that house made me forget everything."

"You could come stay with me since Ed is after you. It'll be best for you,"

"And it'll be wrong if I endanger you and Zara. I'm sorry but I can't accept your offer."

"Okay."

"At least ice cream could do more wonders if I put my heart to it," I laugh.

"Yes it could."

Zane's words were dull; no excitement. I squint my eyes, "What's wrong?"

"I can't bear to see you like this. You're only smiling because you want to hide those pains. You want to hide your worries and your fears. I can't. I don't want to see you get hurt. You don't deserve any of this. You don't deserve a maniac uncle who is after you for something you don't know about."

"It's okay Zane. My dad always told me that a man who is proud of dying, is proud of showing is battle scars. I want to be that man,"

"So what's going to happen?" He stares at the pendant on my neck.

"We'll just have to wait and see..."

We are all at the ice cream palour. I smiling at the joke Darren just said when the news comes on.

"....Kress Boulvard has been killed at the early hours of today by a bullet. As of now, investigations are going on. The police are still...."

Zane looks at me, wide-eyed. "Please excuse me," and with that I leave to the bathroom.

I'm staring into the mirror, confused how the media knew about Kress. Kress' job was a secret. I turn on the tap, dip my hands into the running cold and wash my face. Luckily, I didn't wear much makeup but I came with my bag. I'll just reapply my lip gloss and be out of here.

I thought tonight was going be great but I was wrong. I stare into the mirror and begin to cry. I hear knocks on the door but I don't say anything. The door knob twists and reveal Zane who is looking at me.

I'm looking hideous but I don't care. It's all too much.

"Come here," Zane says with his arms wide open, I hold him tight as if my life is dependent on the hug but it doesn't bother me. He coos into my ear. I haul myself away from his embrace. I rake my hair roughly.

I hold on to my chest. I can't breathe. Everywhere is sucking me in, and the lights are becoming dimmer.

"Cassie!" Zane catches me before I hit the floor. "You are going to be fine." He pushes my hair off my face.
