This one's for you, MrsKenway25!
Privateering for the King's navy as a slave wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best job on the planet. I was caught stealing food because I was hungry and don't even have a house. I didn't even steal it, the shop owner gave me the damn apple! Instead of being hanged for thievery, they kept me as a slave on their ship, King's Bounty.
I polish the floorboards, mop up blood pools on the deck, sometimes cook, though mostly I am stationed in the crows nest spying for pirate ships.
Today was a mostly calm day on the sea; low winds, no rouge waves, no water tornadoes, practically waveless, just, calm. Though there was a slight fog, everything seemed all too quiet. That goes for ships, too. The only vessels I've seen today were a couple of gunboats belonging to some Spaniard merchants and a British man o' war.
Nothing very exciting or fun whatsoever. Call me cold, but I actually found it quite amusing when we incapacitated a pirate ship, and the lads begged for mercy.
Sadly, not a soul dared cross the sea this evening.
Wait, is that a mast?!
I peered with my spyglass into the sea to check what I just saw, or what I think I saw. Sure enough, there was a huge mast towering menacingly above the thick fog, proudly flying a black flag with a white skull.
"Captain!! Pirate flag!" I shouted to the captain, below me.
"Do you have the utmost surety?" The quartermaster yelled back, testing if I was lying or not. I looked back, raising my eyes with my hands on my hips. They, the crew, tend to believe I will try and get away every chance I get, though the captain has faith in my loyalty.
"If I wanted to escape yous, I wouldn't have waited this long to do it!" I shouted back once again and turned to face the sea, lapping waves at the hull of the ship. A bird of prey screeched from overhead.
What the hell?, I thought, squinting my eyes, the salt making it harder to perceive objects. I swiveled around the face a tinier mast going through the bottom of the wood pallet I was standing on and a few feet upwards towards the cloudy sky. Resting atop the pole was an eagle, watching my every movement.
"Altaïr..." I mumbled, causing the bird to fly away. It was as if he was warning me of something like my family always told me.
"If you see an eagle, it's the Assassin Altaïr coming to say you're in danger. Take care in what you do afterward.", is what they'd say. I don't personally believe that myth, but this unexpected appearance scared the Jaysus out of me.
The eagle squawked, flying into the mysterious fog.
The mast was gone, taking the flag with it.
I gasped at this sudden disappearing act, looking below me to see the crew frantically pacing about on the main deck. The captain was shouting orders at the crew, while he ran to the top deck and grabbed ahold of the sturdy wheel.
I stared back deeply into the fog where the eagle flew, and the mast disappeared into. Emerging from the thick mist was ship. Is that a brigate?! No, a frigate!
I peered through my spyglass to find the name of the ship and found it by the ram. I haven't completely learned how to read yet, but I could read the ship's name, and by the looks of it, we're in some serious trouble.
It read Jackdaw. That's Edward Kenway's ship. The infamous, merciless, most well-known pirate of the West Indies. He's sailed with James Kidd and Edward Teach, two other well-known pirates. Between the three of them, they have enough bounties on their heads to last the entire population of Kingston a good year's worth.
