Thomas POV.
Oh look, a new school. By this point I was sick to death of constantly moving around. Though this time may be different, because this time, I might not have to move. However, there was still this nagging suspicion that I'd still have to follow the rules the my twin sister, Teresa, and I had made up. Those rules were what we'd lived by for years now, to ensure that we didn't get too hurt when we had to move to a different school. Rule 1, keep up with your studies. Rule 2, don't get emotionally attached to people. And finally, the most important rule, rule 3, don't, under any circumstances, fall in love. Never once have either of us broken any of those sacred rules. And I don't plan to any time soon.
"Tom, you ready for school?" Teresa poked her head around the door, causing me to roll my eyes and nod solemnly. Teresa and I then left the house with a quick goodbye to our mother, my satchel hanging from my shoulder. The short walk to the school was virtually silent, both of us nervous about starting a new school even though we've done it 10 times before. We fist bump as we enter the gates, each going in separate directions. As I wandered aimlessly through the hallways, I find the girl who is most definitely the queen bee of the school... aka, the person who usually keeps me entertained when I move to a new school. I casually wink at her and do finger guns, turning to continue walking down the hallway. That was when I caught a glimpse of gorgeous dirty blonde hair. The owner of the blonde hair was a boy who looked to be my age, wearing jeans and a grey hoodie. He was slightly taller than me, and looked to be in a rush. His skin was a pale shade, his dark eyes contrasting it perfectly. Suddenly, Miss queen bee was the furthest thing from my mind as I watched the boy continue to rush down the hallway, his gorgeous hair flowing in the breeze caused by his speed. At that moment I knew I absolutely had to become friends with the boy. This was my only thought as my body switched to autopilot and I walked into class, quickly introducing myself to the class. As first break rolled around, I found myself subconsciously looking for the blonde boy who had managed to captivate my attention without any effort whatsoever. I spotted him in the lunch hall, sitting with a small group of what I assumed to be his friends. The seat next to him was empty, and in that instant I realised that was my chance. Composing myself in the hopes of being more cool looking, I walk over to the table he's seated at.
"Hey, is this seat taken?" I ask casually, as if I wouldn't become increasingly crushed if the boy said no. It took a while for anyone to answer, and just as it looked like one of the boy's friends, a boy who seemingly used a substantial amount of hair gel, was going to answer the blonde spoke up.
"No, you can sit down." His voice was small and cute, just barely over a whisper. I thanked him and took a seat, setting my lunch onto the table, quickly realising that Teresa had swapped it for a homemade lunch. Sighing, I unwrapped it to reveal a Japanese style bento. Glancing up, I realise that everyone at the table is looking at me. Shying away a bit, I look around the room, my eyes landing on my smug looking twin seated with a bunch of badass looking bitches... just like her. She laughed at my glare and discreetly flipped me off, me returning the gesture as I returned my attention to the table I was seated at.
"My sister is going through a food phase right now..." I state with an awkward chuckle. The other two people go back to their own conversation, kind of ignoring me, not that I really mind. However, the blonde cutie is still looking at me, confused with his head tilted to the side. He looked so adorable that I felt a pang in my heart. "I'm Thomas. By the way." I say as I look him in the eyes. He truly is something to behold. A light blush dusted over his cheeks as I spoke to him, the colour deepening when his eyes landed on my face, seeming to take it all in.
"Hi, I'm Thomas. WAit, that's not what I meant. Shuck, I'm Newton, yeah. Not Thomas, you're Thomas, not me. I'm Newton. Damnit..." The boy, Newton, sighed as his shoulders sagged in embarrassment. He was honestly the most adorable human being I've ever seen. Ever. Also, Newton had a British accent.
"Well hello ThomasWaitNewton." I state with a smirk, loving the way his face flushes bright red. "Now that I think about it, Newton is a kind of long name... can I call you Newt?"
"Um... Only if I can call you Tommy..." Newt looked down towards his lunch, his blush somehow never leaving his face. Honestly, I'm dying.
"Sure, Newt... By the way, nice accent." My attempt to compliment the boy goes kind of south when I can physically see him putting up mental walls and shutting down. Shit, I need to fix this. "Don't like the accent huh, I get that pain. As soon as most people hear my accent they ask if I ride kangaroos to school or wrestle crocodiles in my spare time, I mean seriously?!" (Btw this is set in America) I immediately feel relieved when Newtie cutie lets out a small giggle that stops my heart for a moment. The sound also stops all conversation at the table, causing the boy in question to take an awkward bite out of his sandwich.
"Newton, did you just giggle?" A Korean looking boy asked (Hair gel boy), looking as though he'd seen a ghost or something equally bizarre. The kid next to Korean boy looked just as confused.
"Yeah, I guess I did..." Newt spoke in his almost whisper again, and it was hard to distinguish the accent that I absolutely loved.
"Hey Newt, Minho, Chuck, stranger." A boy with dark skin says, looking at me in a confused manner as he stood awkwardly and looked to the Korean, who I've begun to assume is Minho, for answers, probably answers as to why I'm here. That means that the younger boy next to Minho is Chuck.
"Hi, I'm Thomas." I say with a smile.
"Alby. Also, that's my chair." Alby spoke in an authoritative yet protective tone. But I stood my ground and stared Alby dead in the eyes. Our stare off only lasted another couple of seconds, as the adorable British angel cleared his throat, catching everyone's attention.
"I, um, I..." Newt seemed to be struggling with his words for a moment, before he took a breath and sat up a bit straighter. "I told Tommy he could sit next to me." Alby frowned slightly at Newt's words as he sat beside Chuck, and subsequently me.
"So, what happened to have the whole table quiet just as I got here?" Alby asked, his eyes narrowing on me as if he believed I'd done something wrong.
"Newtie giggled." I said, deciding that Newtie is a better nickname than a kind of plain 'Newt'. This new nickname made the whole table silent, everyone but Newt staring at me. I looked at Newtie to see him blushing profusely.
"How dare you call Newton some random nickname. He hates most people calling him anything but Newton, only Minho and I being able to call him Newt. Apologise to him-" "I like it." Newt interrupted Alby, who was ranting and being an all 'round dipsy downer.
"Cool, Newtie." I say with a smirk, smug at the look of complete shock on, not only Alby's, but Chuck and Minho's faces too.
"So, how do you like Beacon Hills so far?" Newt asked, his eyes finally lifting up to meet mine.
"I quite like it thus far." Because of you.
"That's good. Well, personally I bloody hate this place sometimes." Newt chuckles slightly, going to take another bite of his sandwich. I look over to see Teresa coming my way and sigh, letting my head bang onto the table.
"Hey Tommy, you ok?" Newt asks as he pat my arm lightly. The moment his fingertips brushed against my arm, I felt a shock jolt through me, like touching a power line. It's probably just static electricity though.
"Wait, 'Tommy'?" I hear Teresa behind me. Sighing, I turn to look at her, only to glimpse her warning glance. With that I realise, shit I'm already breaking rule 2.
"Yeah. Hi to you too Teresa." I mumble and hold up my closed fist, her bringing her own fist up to meet mine.
"So, who's this?" Teresa asked, reaching a hand up to rest up on Newt's shoulder. Suddenly, my hand had latched itself onto her wrist, halting the movement.
"Um, what have I told you about people's personal space Teri." My cover up was admittedly not very good, but it fooled her. Teresa shrugged and sat down beside me and Alby, starting up conversation with the rest of the table. However, as I glanced at Newt, I realise he didn't buy my cover story. I know I'm going to have to give him a proper explanation, though not at this very instant.
Hey readers! I'm really happy to start a new fic! I've had this Newtmas idea for a while, but only just bought myself to write it for some reason. Anyway, this is chapter one, so I hope you enjoy it enough to stick around!
