Thomas POV.
On Monday I got up and dressed almost cruelly early. But, it was for a good cause. Teri sat in his room waiting for me, face pale and nervous, though he tried his hardest to mask it. Teri smiled up at me, though it looked more like a pained grimace.
"Hey Tom." He said weakly, looking like he wanted to crawl under his covers and hide from the world. To hibernate like a bear in fear.
"Hey Teri. Come on, lets pick out your outfit." I smile softly as I hold out a hand to my brother. He returned it weakly as he took my hand, allowing me to pull him up. We walked over to the bags n the corner of his room, for he hadn't had time to go through his closet yet.
"I wanna wear this." Teri pulled out the jumper Newt had bought for him. A joyous smile formed over my lips. I'm so happy that Teri gets along with my future husband.
"I'd suggest you wear these with it then." I say, holing up a pair of grey ripped jeans and a black shirt. Teri nods, walking to the bathroom to get changed while I go through his shoes. I knew which pair I was looking for, and smiled triumphantly as I pulled out the combat boots I bought Teri for his last birthday. He comes back in the room and puts the shoes on, me getting hair gel and a hair brush as he did so. He asked me last night if I could help him get ready for school, and of course I couldn't say no. I styled Teri's hair so it stayed predominantly to one side, some strands brushing against his forehead.
"So?" Teri asks, spinning around in a circle. I give my nod of approval and we walk downstairs. I see mum in the kitchen, talking to the sherif, Noah. He honestly doesn't seem that bad, but I'm still weary of him. I know he's nothing like Dad, but at this point I see it as I can never be too careful. I don't want to wind up with a bullet in my skull, after all. I say a quick good morning as I grab two apples, passing one to Teri. With a short goodbye, we begin the walk to school. Teri and I stay silent, him clearly very nervous. I give Teri a questioning look when we reach the school entrance. He nodded, meaning he wanted me to open the door. We walked down the hallway like it was a death march. Pepole pointed and stared, but Teri kept his head held high. Alby was at practice, so we wouldn't be seeing him 'til lunch. As Teri walked to his locker, he stopped dead in his tracks.
"What the fuck?!" Alby half shouted as he stood up from having leant on Teri's locker. So... scratch the whole see-Alby-at-lunch thing...
"Hi, Alby..." Teri ran a hand through his short hair, nervously biting his lip. I stood back a bit, knowing Teri could handle himself.
"What is this?!" Alby seemed to be getting more and more pissed, but Teri didn't even flinch.
"This is me. I'm being who I am." Teri spoke with more confidence then I'd ever heard from him before, staring down Alby. He cut in when it looked like Alby was going to talk. "Let me guess, you don't like me now? Well guess fucking what, It'd be your damn loss. I'm being me, and I don't care what you have to say about it. Say it's humiliating! Say it's unnatural! Because that's all BULLSHIT! You wanna know what is unnatural?! Being born in a way that society will already hate me for! It's unnatural that society would deem me as wrong or confused! Because I'm not! I know exactly who I am! I'm a boy! I don't care about what body I was born in, that's who I am! So what if it's embarrassing to you to have dated a trans person?! It's more humiliating to wear dresses and pretend to be a girl when you know in your heart your NOT!" Teri was breathing heavily at the end of his speech, eyes fixed on Alby with so much rage that he shrank away a bit. But then he seemed to realise what he was doing, because he stood straight and looked at the crowd that had formed.
"See, this is what happens when you let crazies think whatever they want, they become even more delusional!" Alby yelled humorously, causing a few people to snicker and laugh. Newtie came to stand beside me, grabbing my hand.
