Arthit's eyes darted around as he thought of a way to salvage the situation. He cursed himself a thousand times as he thought of a way to change the subject.
"You already said it. You can't take it back," Kongpob said with a serious face.
Arthit gave in reluctantly. "It doesn't change anything.
Kongpob's face fell and his body suddenly felt cold. He jerked away from Arthit and looked around for his underwear. When he found them, he put them on. When he looked back at Arthit, he noticed his erection had sprung back up with a vengeance.
"You're just fighting yourself and making both of us miserable," Kongpob said with a knowing look.
Arthit frowned and sat up. "Kongpob, I..."
"I give up," Kongpob said with a sad look. His chest tightened as he said the words and he was screaming at himself in his head, but he didn't take them back. The feeling of Arthit telling him he loved him was eclipse by the fact that his P's love was not enough for him to be with him.
Arthit looked at him in surprise. He opened his mouth as if to say something.
Kongpob pleaded with his eyes. Please stay. Please tell me you want to be with me. Kongpob said a thousand prayers in his head as he waited to hear what Arthit wanted to say.
But Arthit closed his mouth and didn't say anything. Arthit gave him an apologetic look, but Kongpob looked away from him and ignored him.
Arthit got up and put on his clothes quickly. He turned to Kongpob and saw him giving him his back so he just sighed and closed the door quietly behind him.
Kongpob sat down on the bed and held his head in frustration. His body hunched down as he tried to make himself as small as possible. He felt tears running down his face and his heart felt like someone was stabbing it.
Arthit walked away from Kongpob's door and he barely got to the elevator before he let out a sob. He put his hand over his mouth to muffle the sounds and walked home dejectedly.
.......
The next day was the trip the hazers had planned for the freshman. Arthit felt awkward and he froze as he saw Kongpob with his friends. Kongpob looked somber and the easy smile with which he always greeted everyone was gone.
When Toota and Bright approached Kongpob's group, Arthit reluctantly tagged along. His gaze met Kongpob's, but Kongpob only gave him a respectful Wai.
Arthit felt he had done the right thing, but the distance between them hurt. Arthit sighed as he got on the bus and sat next to Bright. He tried to sleep, but Bright kept sleeping on his shoulder and snoring with soft whistles. Arthit gave up trying to sleep and subtly turned his head to look behind him at Kongpob.
Kongpob was smiling at the girl called Mei and eating snacks with her. Arthit balled up his fists and glared at back of the seat in front of him. He also shouldered Bright's face away from him. Bright's face hit the window, but Bright didn't even wake up from the blow.
Kongpob glanced at the back of Arthit's head longingly. Despite what he said, he was still waiting for Arthit to get in touch with him and tell him that he wanted to be together. However, he knew he had to be firm. Every day he opened his arms to Arthit, but got slapped in the face each time. The pain of constantly being rejected was excruciating. Kongpob couldn't take it anymore.
After a while, the bus stopped at a rest stop and Kongpob saw that Bright got off the bus and Arthit was sleeping against the window. The sight of Arthit's sleeping face tugged at his heart strings. Kongpob reluctantly turned away and left the bus to go to the store. As he browsed the drinks section he saw bottled pink milk and reached inside for one.
