Peter

"I'm gonna go ask her now, okay?"

I nodded my head. Ned went off to go find Camella.

After our talk, I decided that I was going tell Camella how I felt. Ned even made a plan. He would invite Camella over to my place tonight to watch a movie, but he'll get MJ to call him and pretend to need him to help with their partner project for chemistry class. Even MJ was on board, which I thought was weird because this whole "set-up" thing wasn't really her scene.

I could only hope Camella would take it well and it wouldn't ruin our friendship.

Ned

I found Camella as she was shutting her locker, about to go home.

"Camella! Wait up!" I called out, running up to her.

"Hey, Ned. What's up?"

"Nothing. Just wanted to see if you wanted to come with me to Peter's tonight to watch some movies," I said.

"I can't, sorry. Got a date with Liam Carter."

My jaw dropped. "Liam Carter?"

"Yeah. You know, he's a junior, football player?"

"Yeah, I know him," I grumbled.

"It's my first, like, real date. I'm super excited." She smiled widely as she talked, which only made me unhappier.

"Oh, well, have fun on your date." Or not.

"I'll tell you about it tomorrow," she said, winking at me. "See ya, Ned!"

She turned and walked away, a bounce in her step.

Shit. What am I gonna tell Peter?

Peter

As I was putting my books away in my locker, Ned made his way over to me. The look on his face wasn't a very happy one.

"So?" I inquired, shutting my locker.

"She can't. She has a date. With Liam Carter," he replied bitterly.

My heart dropped. "Really?"

"Yeah." When he saw the look on my face, he patted my shoulder. "Maybe next time."

I dropped my shoulders. "I guess so. I'll just go patrolling tonight, then."

Ned gave me one last pitying look, then walked off.

Will I ever get to tell her?

Camella

"Hey, Mom," I bubbled happily as I skipped into the kitchen.

"Hey, sweetpea. You're awfully happy," she chuckled as I leaned over the island across from her.

"I am happy. I've got a date tonight," I announced proudly.

Mom beamed. "That's great, honey! With who?"

"His name's Liam. He's on the football team and he's really smart," I gushed. "He's picking me up at seven."

Mom glanced at the clock. "Well, it's almost four. I'd love to help you get ready, darling, but I've got a shit ton of work that needs to be finished and brought in by 7:30, and I know I'm gonna be late anyway. Make sure not to rush while getting ready, 'kay? I don't want you to leave and forget your phone or something." She grabbed her papers, laptop and cup of tea and made her way to her office, kissing the top of my head as she walked by.
