Peter
As we started to approach the carnival, Ned kept nudging me and making jokes, which only made me more nervous about confessing my feelings to Camella.
Everywhere we looked, little kids were running around, chasing each other with snowballs or dragging their parents to get them to look at the snowman they made. The odd couple would be caught under the mistletoe, having to share a quick kiss as laughs and cheers erupted from their friends.
As we looked around the different activities, Camella came up beside me.
"Look, I know you and Liam don't really get along, but be nice, okay?" She gave me her signature puppy dog eyes, which she knew I couldn't resist.
"Okay," I relented, smiling at her grudgingly. She smiled back and returned to looking around.
Camella
"Hey, Camella!" someone called behind us. We all turned around and saw Liam jogging up to us.
"Hey!" I greeted him. "You know Peter, and this is MJ and Ned."
He looked at MJ and Ned. "Hey, guys." He glanced at Peter and nodded. Peter clenched his jaw and shifted his gaze over to something else.
Sensing the tension, I hooked each of my arms through Peter and Ned's. "Come on, guys! Let's go find something to do."
A lot of the activities were for little kids, but I still enjoyed watching them all. It reminded me of Peter and me when we were little.
"Hey, Peter, you remember that time when we were 9 and we had that snowball fight here?"
He grinned, remembering that evening. "Yeah, and I hit you in the jaw with a chunk of ice?"
"I still haven't forgiven you," I teased.
"Hey," MJ yelled over to us. We turned around to look at her. "You," she exclaimed, "said you'd buy me food. Pay up." She held out her hand.
I rolled my eyes but pulled out the money anyway. She snatched it out of my hand and stalked off to find a concession stand.
"Hey, guys, you wanna come guess how many peppermints are in that jar with me?" Ned asked us.
"Ned, you know those things are traps just to get you to spend your money, right?" Peter asked.
"Yeah, but I have a, like, sixth sense for these things, ya know?" And with that, he bounded off to the stand.
I chuckled as I watched him go. Liam was behind Peter and me, stopping to get something to eat.
"You wanna walk around?" Peter suggested.
I gave him a warm smile. "Yeah."
As we slowly made our way around the carnival grounds, we were reminded of all of the fun memories that were made here. Almost everywhere we went, I could think of some scenario that happened there.
"Holy shit. No way," I exclaimed in disbelief.
"What?" Peter asked, eyeing my face.
"They still have the ring toss from like, 10 years ago!" I squealed. I grabbed his arm and pulled him behind me.
We stood in the line, watching as a little girl tossed her rings to try to land one on a bottle.
"Holy fucking shit," I hissed, quieting my voice so that the kids couldn't hear me.
Peter noticed where I was staring and his eyes traveled up to where my gaze was. He grinned when he saw it. "That was the first thing I won here, wasn't it?"
