REMI
I hurriedly take out the books I need and rush to first period, trying to steer clear of Audrey. I don't know why I'm hiding. I guess I feel a little guilty. I'm dreading telling her that I can't hang with her tonight, and that I'm going out with Travis instead.
I've already blowed her off yesterday, because I was busy, now I have to do it again. Something tells me she isn't going to take this very well, but I hope she can as understanding as I would, if I were in her situation.
Why does everything have to be complicated?
Why can't I just go up to her and say, "Hey, I can't make it tonight. Can I get a rain check?"
And then she'll respond, "It's okay. We can always do it some other time. No worries." Then we can just hug and talk about hair, or nails or something different to her than I'll be busy with a boy, instead of hanging with my best friend.
I am seated in my assigned seat before the late bell chimes. Today's a free day, since we already took the Biology finals. Which I'm not too worried about. I'm pretty sure I got a decent grade.
If not, my overall grade in Biology would stay an A.
Although I'm confident and secure with my biology grade, I'm a little worried about the Social Studies one. But I shouldn't be, because-
"You're the new student, right?" Dr.Hanks says.
I'm still worrying about my Social Studies grade when a deep, smooth voice responds, "Um, yeah. I just started today."
I continue to scroll through my phone, careful to not open Audrey's text message.
I seriously don't know why I'm so scared to tell her I won't be able to hang tonight. It's just a simple, little rescheduling right?
I mean-
"Travis Porter." The deep, smooth voice says. My head snaps up that instant. Why is Travis standing in my Biology class right now?
My eyes widened at the sight of him. He looks even better than he did the last time I saw him.
Dr. Hanks looks down at the attendance sheet and nods. "Alright, Porter, sit wherever you like. Meet my expectations and we won't have problem."
Travis looks around the room. I look back down, hopefully he doesn't see me.
I try to concentrate back on my phone. Nothing's really interesting in my phone right now, but I'm going pretend it is.
Someone pulls back a chair from the table where I'm sitting. I don't have to look up to know it's Travis. He plops down and sighs. He keeps sighing and making little irritating noise until I turn to face him to tell him to stop.
"You know you're wrong, right?" He says.
I furrow my brows. "Me? Wrong? How? F-f-for what?" This is why I didn't want him to even acknowledge me. I'm a stuttering mess.
"You weren't going to say anything? Damn girl, I didn't know it was like that." He puts his hand over his heart, as if he was hurt.
I chuckle and shrug. "Didn't think you noticed me."
"Really? You're the first one I noticed." I laugh out loud. That's a first. Its hard to believe him. I'm never the first to be noticed. Especially when there's so many pretty girls in one class.
And they're all eyeing Travis like he's a piece of candy they want to unwrap. Well, including me.
But I can't help but smile at what he just said. I want to believe it.
