"How did you find out?" His voice was cautious and reserved.

"I didn't get my period. At first I thought I was only late, but the more days passed, the more insecure I became. Well, then I had to take a test", my hand reached into my jacket pocket where the test was and pulled it out.

I held it out so that you could see the result clearly. Shawn's noticeable trembling hands grabbed the stick and held it nervously. I could see clearly that he couldn't trust his eyes and ears. Worried, I looked at him and tried to recognize a reaction, but his facial expression was hard to define. By the time his hand quickly struck his right cheek, I knew I had something to say.

"Say something," I whispered in a trembling voice.

I was nervous, that was out of the question. I didn't know how to tell him and if I had to tell him at all. The fear that he never wanted to see me again or that he would hate me was huge.

"We go in, sit on the couch and talk about what's going on," he handed me the test again, loosened his seat belt and opened the door of the car.

We found ourselves in his living room. As usual, I had cuddled up in a blanket in the corner of the sofa, waiting for Shawn to bring me a cup of hot cocoa. So we always spent the cooler days.

When Shawn was visible in the doorway, a soft smile came to my lips. The sight of him always having to concentrate, not stumbling and pouring out the cocoa was funny as always.

"Madam, your cocoa," he bowed slightly and handed me the warm cup.

"Thank you, darling," I said before I started to laugh.

Shawn sat down right next to me, pretty close than I expected. For the first few minutes we just stared at our cups and watched them steam. One hand of Shawn wandered to my right leg and stayed there while he put his cup on the small wooden coffe table.

Even if there was a blanket over my body, the contact with him calmed me down.  The situation was frightening, especially because we were both so young and had our own careers. As I was, I expected the worst. I thought Shawn would kick me out of his life and never want to see me again, even though I wasn't fully to blame.

"What are we going to do?" I whispered quietly in a still trembling voice.

"I want us to make it work once and for all," his voice sounded determined and clear.

"What do you mean?", my eyes met his, who looked at me with a serious look.

"Such slips don't just happen. We've had this before and we both liked each other and everyone else could see it clearly".

"You want us to try it?" I had to ask, just to be sure, because it was way too sudden.

"Sure I want that. I broke up with Christy after all this happened, I always had some feelings for you and you always ran away. I don't want this innocent little thing of ours to be abandoned just because we were too stupid to get our shit together," he grabbed my free hand and stroked it gently while looking at me with his sparkling eyes.

I sat up and put my mug next to Shawns on the coffee table. Finally I sat down close to Shawn and cuddled up to him. Not out of the intention that I now felt like a "girlfriend", I wanted to show him by the majority that I was grateful.

"Thank you"

"What do you have to thank me for now?" Even though I couldn't see him, I knew he frowned.

"That you don't hate me and don't throw me straight out. For reacting like that", again I answered almost whispering.
