CHAPTERS 1-2

(POV: Alex)

Our world, how do I describe our world? That's right! Different. There are four elements- Fire, Earth, Wind, Water, or Fire Starters, Earth Rattlers, Wind Breakers, and Water Risers. Each person controls one of the elements- except for a few. They control all four.

Elements pass down through family. Like- me for instance. My entire family is all Water. At the age of sixteen, your powers go into action. When you turn eighteen, you are sent to The Academy- or the one closest to you. The Academy is a like a college for controlling your powers, but you also learn stuff like you would in college.

I had just turned eighteen. I was being sent to The Academy with the newest group. To say I was nervous would be an understatement. I had just finished packing when my mom walked into my room.

"My baby boy is going to The Academy!" She cried.

"Yes, mom. Just a few more hours until I leave." I smiled. It was only a half hour from my home.

"Tom would be so proud of you." She said. I nodded and half smiled. Tom had been my older brother, but he had committed suicide before he ever got to The Academy. Drowned himself...

"Thanks, Mom," I said, grabbing her and hugging her. "I'll miss you so much," I told her. She hugged me back.

"I'll miss you, too, Alex." She let go of me. "Finish getting packed, sweetie. You've still got a few more hours as my baby." She smiled at left me alone. I grinned. Finally, I could do it.

I played with my newly dyed blue locks as we neared the school. I was nervous and tired. My Mom drove up beside the building. I had been sent my schedule, room and dorm directions, and other little things. My mom helped me get my stuff up to my room.

The dorm was considerable good sized. Two double beds with a stand between them sat in the middle of the room. A door led to the bathroom on one side, the kitchen on the other. There was a TV and a couch on the wall in front of the beds. A dresser sat against the wall to the bathroom and one to the kitchen. I picked the one closest to the bathroom. I set my bags down. My mom hugged me.

"I'll see you come Christmas." She told me. I hugged her back.

"See you soon," I said. She left me to unpack. I sighed and put my stuff away, sheets on my bed, and my posters on the wall (Most a group of Earth Rattlers called Blink-182). A few minutes after I finished, a guy with skunk hair walked in with a woman following.

"Mom! I don't need any help!" The guy yelled.

"Yes you do, Jack! You can barely do laundry!" The woman yelled back.

"Mom! My roommate is already here! Stop!" He said. He grinned at me. "I'm Jack. What's your name?"

"A-Alex Gaskarth." I stuttered out.

"Nice to meet you A-Alex Gaskarth." He joked. He started unpacking with the help of his mom. "So, you like Blink?"

"Uh, yeah. You a fan, too?"

"Oh yeah! Them and Green Day! Two of the absolute best Earth Rattler groups out there!" He said. He began putting up posters. Blink, Green Day, Nirvana, Guns and Roses, but he also put up an Aqua poster. "What? Barbie Girl, man!" He said. I laughed.

"I think we're going to get along just fine," I told him. He then told his mom goodbye and she left.

"So, Alex. What are you?" Jack asked, shutting the door.
