It was 11:00 I had decided to go to bed since Spencer never took me up on his offer. I climbed in beside Mickey-who was asleep- when I heard a hesitant knock at the door.
I got out of bed shuffling to the door in pajamas. It was odd since they knocked on the bathroom door instead of the main one. Without further questions I opened the door.
Spencer leaned against the door side picking ay hid finger nails. "Oh, I-" I said looking down at my long t-shirt.
"Sorry, I wanted to do it later. So the others wouldn't wanna come."
"That's cool. Uh let me put on jeans."
"Shorts."He said abruptly moving so he stood up straight.
"But it's fall?"
"Shorts."
"Running shorts okay?"
"Anything." He shrugged.
I grabbed a pair struggling to put them on without waking Mickey. "Ready." I said walking behind him as we walked through his room to the hallway.
We both crept downstairs and he got into his car as I sat in the passenger seat.
"Nothing much has changed." He said breaking the long comfortable silence.
"I can tell." I said more to myself. "The diner. still open?"
"Yeah, Josh says if he makes enough he'll own it one day."
"So you don't plan on leaving."
"Broadway is home." He said with no real expression.
"Mickey left."
"Mickey is a 22 minute drive. He lives in Clifton, New Jersey not Pennsylvania."
"I needed something new." I said bluntly to myself looking out the window. "We past home anyway."
"I decided to take a detour." He said ending the conversation.
The ride was awkwardly silent until we reached his detoured destination. He parked the car hesitant to get out.
"Before you get out and complain. I thought out of all places this was the best." He said looking at me his face unreadable.
"Okay." I said getting out. My shoes reached the hard ground it was dark, but I could see the ocean from afar.
He brought me to the beach how romantic. I walked to the sand my shoes instantly being covered. The beach wasn't completely empty yet quiet.
He stood beside me enjoying the view. "I don't wanna fight." He said eyes never moving from the moonlight.
"So we're okay?"
"I wanna believe so." He said his charm and sarcasm gone.
"Then just pretend." I said candidly.
He took of his shirt rather randomly running towards the water managing to kick of his shoes before hitting the most likely cold currents.
I rolled my eyes stripping to my bra and underwear running in. Like I predicted the water was cold, and stung my fresh cuts. But for once I never worried about showing them or hurting others. I was free.
My head went under and I felt no need to come back up. As if it was okay. It was okay to just let go and break free.
I felt my body be pulled up and I could properly breath. Spencer held me close but only cause my head would go under if he let go.
