After being stitched up Ellie was taken to the recovery room to be monitored for an hour. While there the midwife helped to show her how to breastfeed her baby, it was a little uncomfortable at first but once her and the baby got the hang of it, it felt very natural, although it was not without some pain. Jason was by her side through it all, making sure he took plenty of pictures. He knew that when Ellie saw them she would think she looked awful, she had after all just been through labour and major surgery. But all Jason saw was his beautiful wife, the mother of his perfect child, he could not have been happier. He knew that in time she would.look past her tired appearance and cherish the first photos of her and their son.
"So what are you going to call him?" The midwife asked.
While she was pregnant Ellie and Jason had many discussions about what they would name their child. They had names picked out for each sex, and even had second favourites picked out in case they felt like the baby didn't suit the name they had originally picked.
"Hunter" Jason smiled fondly as he stroked the little babies cheek with his finger. He was absolutely smitten with his son.
"Hunter Wyatt Crouse" Ellie smiled proudly.
"Beautiful name for a beautiful baby boy" the midwife grinned.
The following day when Ellie was feeling a bit more rested, Jason and one of the nurses helped to get her up out of the bed and have a shower. She felt so much more human after getting up and moving around and getting clean.
Ellie spent the next four days in hospital while she recovered, and of course Jason stayed with her the whole time. Only leaving to shower and change or grab a bit to eat. Every day she was feeling a little better, but she remained on pain killers. It hurt to sit up or move in a way that strained her stomach muscles. Which was completely understandable given she was cut open and her stomach muscles pried apart to get their baby out.
Finally when she was healed up enough she was able to go home, and she couldn't wait. It was nice to be in the hospital and have the professionals around for advice, but Ellie missed her own bed. She always felt safest in her own space, it made her happy to step foot in the apartment again.
After feeding Hunter Ellie put him down to sleep in his bassinet. He was so perfect she could stare at him all day long.
"We make fucking cute kids right?" Jason whispered from the doorway as he admired his wife and newborn son.
"We definitely do. I think that might be mostly your genetics" she smiled as she walked over and wrapped her arms around him.
"No way Sweetheart. That's all you" he laughed.
"Agree to disagree" she teased.
"I'm so proud of you Ellie... all that you went through to bring Hunter in to this world. It was hard just watching you in pain, I can't imagine what it must have felt like. You are incredible Babygirl" Jason smiled as he wrapped his arms around her.
"I couldn't have done it without you Jason. You gave me the strength to keep going even when I thought I had nothing left in me".
"You are stronger than you know Sweetheart".
"I love you Jason" Ellie smiled.
"I love you more than I ever thought someone could love another person... Hunter too. Just when I thought my heart was full, our baby boy came along and showed me a whole other level of love".
"Me too Babe" she smiled as she looked in awe at the little bundle wrapped up in his bed. "Me too".
