More angst and fluff, because these two dorks comforting each other is what I live for. Pre-TTTYG era. Could be read as a sequel to "Hide and Seek" if it suits your fancy. Also, comment if you want Valentine's Day smut!
Panic. That's what Patrick felt looking at his grades. He could feel his heart speeding up, and he could barely breathe. He knew he should've done his homework, and sure, his test grades haven't been great, but he didn't think it would be this bad. It's nearly one in the morning. He should be asleep, he is not going to have a good day tomorrow, which is only going to damage his grades further, oh fuck-
He called Pete without thinking. As soon as his phone rang the third time, he panicked a little more, because what if Pete was asleep? What if he woke his sleep deprived boyfriend from the only peaceful sleep he would get in the next week?
"Sorry honey, I was in the bathroom. What's up? You're not usually up this late."
Patrick took a deep breath. It didn't calm him any. "Can you come over?" he asked softly.
"Of course, Patty. Why though? Are you okay?"
"I just looked at my grades. They're not good, and I'm kind of freaking out." Patrick let out a shaky sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "I need you."
"I'll be there soon. Just breathe for me, honey. And remember: I love you."
Patrick smiled in spite of his distress. "I love you too, babe."
Only seven anxiety-ridden minutes later, he got a text from Pete telling him to open his window. He did, and his boyfriend came tumbling in, sending them both to the floor.
"That was tedious," Pete said in a low tone. He shifted so he was straddling Patrick's waist and propped himself up on his arms. He smiled down at Patrick. "At least I have the best view in the world."
Patrick frowned. "Pete, as much as I'd love to argue with you, now's not the time."
"Right." Pete cleared his throat and stopped smiling, instead gaining a concerned look on his face. "Sorry."
They sat in silence and only stared at each other for a moment. Patrick gave Pete a once-over before sitting up and enveloping him in a hug. They had to shift around so nobody could fall and hit their head, but in the end it was more comfortable anyway; they laid on their sides, Pete wrapped his arms around Patrick, pulled him close, and tangled their legs together. Pete kissed his forehead, then the bridge of his nose, then Patrick met him halfway for a slow kiss.
Pete started drawing firm circles in the small of Patrick's back, and Patrick sighed at the feeling. He reached up and pulled on Pete's hair while rolling his hips, only to have Pete pull away. "Not now, honey. Not while you're upset," Pete whispered. He reached up and wrapped one of Patrick's hands in his. He kissed each one of his knuckles. The concern in his eyes grew a moment later. "You're shaking."
Patrick laughed nervously. "Like I said... I'm kind of freaking out."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"I don't know."
"You don't have to if you don't want to."
Patrick ducked his head and curled closer to Pete. A moment later Pete began playing with his hair.
"I just can't shake the idea that if I fail my life will be over, you know? And it's weird because I've never thought about it like that before this year but all of a sudden it's this huge concern."
Pete hummed. "I feel that way sometimes, too. It's okay though, you know why?"
"Why?"
Pete cupped Patrick's cheek and lifted his head until they were making eye contact. He smiled softly, and Patrick couldn't help but return it. "Because we don't need school. We're going to take our shitty little band and we're going to change the world with it. And you," he paused, pressing their foreheads together, "you're our golden ticket, Patrick. You're my ticket. And I fucking love you, no matter what your grades are."
Patrick's smile lit up the room. "I love you too." He leaned in and kissed Pete again, melting in his boyfriend's arms.
