"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
- Dr. Seuss

OLIVE

I knew this day would come, but I'd be more satisfied if this day would come when I'd help Jason to move on to wherever he belongs. Today I might lose my vision and perhaps wouldn't be of any help to him, I couldn't keep up with the deal, I'm the offender here, I was about to break the promise we made. What was more painful was that he knew it all along, not just after yesterday's conversation, he knew the reason for this vacation was to end my vision. Then why did Jason still force me to come here? I wasn't able to understand why would he do that.
Today when I woke up, he wasn't there in the room. I thought so, if I wasn't ready for this then how can I expect him to feel okay. Anyway, I got ready for the day and came down.

"Come darling, have some breakfast with us." My father said with a happy looking face as if everything was normal.

I looked at mom and she too was giving the most fake smile possible. As if the day wasn't annoying if, they were pretending the kind of support American and Russia would show to each other.

"Morning" I said, still feeling sleepy as I had a restless night full of overthinking. Honestly, I don't know if the vision was a boon or a curse to me but now that its almost time to let it go I couldn't feel more regretful for anyone expect for Jason. I can easily make out the times he was there to rescue me, the times he was so reliable and somehow I found a friend in him.

"What a dark day it is!" the sexton said coming inside from his church prayer with an umbrella all drenched in water. For a moment I thought he was talking about the ceremony but soon I realized he meant by the day in general as it was raining cats and dogs.

Mom saw Ed standing in the corridor upstairs and shouted, " Good Morning Edward, did you have a sound sleep?"

This is when it struck me, Ed shouldn't see me like I'm some alien. He needs to leave the house before the whole process starts but he can't, not when its raining so heavily today.

"Mom?" I called out and whispered in her ears, "We will probably have to postpone the ceremony."

"WHY, WHATS THE MATTER?" He shouted giving me a confused look, Why do mothers have to raise their voices in most dramatic manner possible? I mean, I am right here by your side, calm down the sky hasn't fallen yet, but it might if you didn't learn to lower down your voice. Of course, I didn't say all this to her, all I could say was "Shhh"

"What is it now Olive?" she asked me as if I'm a troublemaker, okay maybe I do invite troubles from time to time but not as much as everyone in the house thinks I do.

"I can't let Ed, think I'm a freak. Its raining outside, he can't go out." I replied

"Oh well, then we must find another way because we go back home tomorrow" she said, next I know is she went to dad and whispered something to him which I assume was exactly what I told her. Dad gave her an assured look and I knew that he has a plan, which ultimately brings us to the same situation, no postponing, I face my destiny today itself.

I then went to the sexton with yet another excuse because apparently the previous one didn't work out so well. "Father, we need to talk"

"What is it about dear?"

"What if I lost my vision in the process?" I asked in the most panicking way that I could sound

"That you will" He said smiling.

"Huh?" I was clueless like how is this man smiling? How is this man always smiling? "Father, I mean my actual vision, I don't want to get blind."

He laughed like I was some innocent little kid asking some illogical question, "First of all nothing harmful as that involves in the process, all I need to do is take out the negative energy stored in you, and Secondly, I won't let our little Oli get hurt at any condition." I could see he was actually concerned about me.
