"It you would all join us at the band corner, we have something very special for you next," the voice of Phun's father came over the microphone. The guests all wandered there, and found that the stage was empty of musicians, except for one guitar player, softly playing a familiar Thai love song.
Just when the guests were wondering what it was all about, Phun led Noh to the grass in front of the band stand.
"Phun...?"
They came to stand facing each other, Phun's hands on Noh's. "Noh... I asked you once before, and promised to make it formal soon. I can't think of a better moment than this, here in front of all our family and friends." There was a collective 'oohhhh!!' from the audience, then it went quiet with anticipation, except for the occasional fireworks dotting the skies behind them.
Noh's face crumpled when he understood. For a moment he couldn't look at Phun, and raised his eyes up, blinking away the welling tears.
"Noh, my love, will you marry me?" Phun took out a small box and held it open. Inside, there were two rings, and with trembling fingers, Phun picked one of them and held it up. Noh wiped his tears with one hand, and threaded his ring finger into the ring without hesitation.
"Yes. You're all I want, Phun," Noh said, and if his voice was a little shaky, everyone understood.
Noh took out the other ring and put it in Phun's ring finger. A huge cheer went up when the two kissed, and just then a huge, colourful rocket blew up in the sky behind them. They laughed, and Noh was about to go and hug his parents, when Phun stopped him.
"Wait," he whispered. Noh looked mystified, but stood with Phun, their hands linked tightly.
Noh understood when he saw Ae take Pete's hand and lead him to stand a little distance from them.
"Ae... Ae khrab..." Pete was repeating, embarrassed. Surely they weren't going to crash Phun and Noh's moment?
It only dawned on Pete when Ae took out a small box from his pocket.
"Pete, you've taught me what love is. It means facing the world together, to be brave for the other person, to try and become a better man. If you let me, I will take care of you forever. Please marry me."
Pete started to cry, and hid his face in his hands. The guests were dead silent, and Ae waited, nervous, until he couldn't take it anymore.
"Pete, you're killing me here...."
"Yes, Ae!" they could hear from beneath Pete's shaking hands. Ae's face split up in a smile, and he kissed Pete's hands until they fell away, and then he kissed Pete's trembling lips, until Pete's hands went around Ae and the kiss turned into dozen soft kisses scattered all over their faces.
"I love you, Pete," Ae said, and pulled away just enough to put the ring in Pete's finger.
Pete's replied 'I love you, too, Ae', was lost in a massive cheer, but Ae heard it and kissed him again.
