~ Amanda's POV ~

It was the day before my flight to Atlanta and I wanted to spend some time with Heather before I left for the next few days. She had gotten promoted to full-time at the bar and it was nearly impossible to find time to spend together.

I offered to come over and help her with Skylar and whatever else she needed while we got a chance to catch up. I really wanted to find out how things were going between her and Tommy. It was well past dinner time but I figured late is better than not at all.

I walked to her apartment and took a deep breath in the fresh air, enjoying the sunshine that we were getting on this day. It was a great time to be alive, and I was going to be able to see Vince and Tommy, Nikki, Mick, all people I've really been missing over the past couple of months. Each day that passed made me realize how long it really had been.

I knocked on Heather's door and she answered it by giving me a tight hug and I went right over to pick up Skylar. She was such a cute and well behaved baby, it was nice to be around her, especially when I could always hand her back to Heather if she started crying. I had a hard time grasping the fact that just a few months back, I was almost in this situation myself.

"So your flight leaves tomorrow then? That's so exciting," she said, starting on the mound of dishes in her sink. I set Skylar in her playpen and grabbed a towel and started to dry them off as soon as she was done.

"Yeah, it's going to be so fun," I said, scrubbing a cup dry with the towel. "Have you talked to Tommy at all lately?"

"A couple of times," she said, shrugging and I could hear a change in her voice as she said, "I don't know what to do."

"I know sweetie," I said, pausing what I was doing to give her a hug. "What would make you happy? That's what you need to remember."

That's the same thing I had told myself when I was in the same situation with Vince. It wasn't exactly fair or right in how I forgave him so easily, but that's what made me happy. And I wasn't keen on everything being fair, I just wanted Vince back so badly I didn't care enough for myself. But Heather was different, she knew she deserved more and she wanted more.

"I think seeing him face to face, I would be able to tell if I could start to love him again. Or if I shouldn't," she said, tears starting to roll down her cheeks.

"Why not come along with me when I go tomorrow? My ticket was crazy cheap," I assured her. I really hoped that things would work out between her and Tommy. Not for Tommy, but for Heather's sake and for Skylar's.

"I have Skylar. And a job," she said. "I can't just drop everything so easily."

"I'm sure Melissa would stay here with Skylar, she loves her. Your boss will understand if you need a couple of days off. Or you could lie, that's even better," I said, chuckling a little bit and she did too. "That's if you wanted to see him sooner rather than later."

"It's worth a try," she said, setting down the dishrag as she picked up the phone.

Heather tried calling the bar first, offering them an excuse that Skylar was really sick and that she needed to stay home and take care of her for the next few days. The owner offered his condolences and wished her well. Then she called Melissa, who said she was already on her way over.

"Thanks, Amanda," Heather said, calling the airline next. "I think this will be good. Get things squared away one way or another."

I nodded in agreement as she booked herself a flight alongside mine, and I realized how much more fun it was going to be now that Heather would be there. We finished the dishes and I helped her fold some laundry before Melissa arrived with her overnight bag.
