~ Amanda's POV ~

"You ready?" I asked Vince, who almost looked more nervous than I was.

"Let's do this," Vince said, being the one to answer the door, revealing the person that we knew was behind it.

He opened the door and quickly stepped back to stand next to me, both of us eagerly waiting for the woman behind the door to step inside. And she was holding a very small bundle of blankets in her arms.

"Is-is that him?" I couldn't help but say out immediately, not even bothering to greet the social worker.

"Yes, this is Adam," the lady said, moving herself inside as Vince closed the door behind her. "Why don't you sit down and I'll let you hold her."

I immediately walked over to the couches in our living room, sitting down and grabbing a blanket to drape over my lap. The social worker came over and handed me the bundle of blankets, which were delicately wrapping up the smallest baby boy ever.

Vince immediately took a seat beside me, eager to see little Adam as well.

"He's so beautiful," I said to the lady, feeling my eyes watering up dramatically.

We had gone through so much over the past few months to finish the adoption process, and today was basically the day that the social worker was going to bring him over, with some supplies that were from the adoption agency. We had already met Adam once before, but since he was a premature baby, he had to stay in the nursery ward of the hospital. So this was the first time we got to see him up close and hold him.

"I just need you both to sign one last document, saying that the adoption is official," she announced, smiling down at the two of us that were delighted with how perfect little Adam was.

Vince quickly signed his half of the document, waiting for me to hand over Adam to him so that way I could sign my half. The social worker thanked us and wished us luck with the baby, reminding us to call her with any problems we had, but it didn't seem like we were going to have any. He seemed like the perfect baby.

After she left, Vince asked, "Do you want to bring Maria down? So she can meet her little brother," he said, flashing me a wide smile.

"I'll go see if she's up," I agreed, heading up the stairs and lightly cracking open Maria's door. She didn't sleep well last night, after we had been up late with her talking about how we were adopting her a little brother. She was confused and a little bit upset, considering she was just over two years old now.

"Mommy?" Maria asked, sitting up in her bed and rubbing her eyes as she looked at me.

"Hey baby," I said, walking over to her and sitting down at the foot of her bed. I rested my hand on her leg above the covers and asked, "how did you sleep?"

"Okay," she said quietly.

"Do you want to come and meet your little brother?" I asked her, smiling so big because I couldn't help myself.

"No," she said sternly, crossing her arms and pouting.

"He's so cute," I encouraged, standing up to go over to Maria's box of toys. I pulled out a baby doll that I had gotten her about the same time that Vince had left for the tour last year. She was pretty upset without him the first few nights, but the doll seemed to help a little. "He's even smaller than your baby," I said, handing her the doll that she now frowned at, even though I knew she loved that doll more than anything.

"I don't want a brother," she said, her face contorting into a phrase like she wanted to cry.

"I never got a brother or sister," I told her, repeating my words from last night. "And I was so lonely. I wish I had a brother that I could share all of my toys with, keep each other company when mommy and daddy are working, you'll always have somebody to play with...don't you want that?"
