Lauren's POV
"Don't do that weirdo, that shit costs $500, Dinah."
Me and Dinah decided to take a day to meet up and talk. I haven't seen her in nearly four years so I'm pretty excited to do this.
"So, did you and your mom even talk since the... incident?"
"Nope, ignore her every time she calls. Not feeding me that sob story bullshit. I know what I saw and what I heard." She said, playing with her bracelet, trying hard not to make eye contact. Which I could understand considering this is a awkward and horrific topic.
You're probably wondering what the hell are we talking about. Here's the story:
(A/N:It's 2020 in the book. Plus, Lauren is almost 24 and Dinah is almost 21. When Lauren was in her last year, Dinah went to the college for credits.)
Dinah's POV
October 2017 was the worst and best month of my life. It helped me to get where I am today. It help me realize how evil my mother was. So here it goes.
Me, my dad and my brother we're currently at the grocery store. We were getting dinner because my mother had worked a double shift.
"Rico stop, you're going to bust the bag open!"
That's was me yelling at my big brother Demario but we call him Rico. He was tossing a bag of rice around.
Soon enough he dropped the bag and it busts open just as I said it would .
"Just go on, I don't want to upset dad." I told him so he scurry off and I could replace the bag of rice.
"How can you even say that? I bust my ass at work almost every day to make sure we have a roof over our heads and you're saying I'm useless? Go fuck yourself, Malika."
I shook my head, my parents have been arguing for the past couple weeks, which isn't good. I don't get it, their honeymoon was about a month ago, and ever since then they've been arguing. My mother's been very distance towards us as well.
I don't get it, my mother used to love being around us, now it's like she doesn't even love us anymore.
Hansen's house.
"Malika, could you pass me the collard greens?"
Welcome to another awkward ass dinner with my family, we only talk when we need something. No more "how was everyone's day", or "remember the time when", just silence.
She hands him the collard greens then stands up. "I'm gonna head up to bed."
"It's only 7:30, Malika." My father said as he raised his eyebrow. "So?"
After that she put her plate in the sink and went upstairs. We just finished our dinner with out a single sound.
I went upstairs and got ready for bed. Then I got on FaceTime with Lauren.
"Still weird huh?" "Hell yeah."
"I don't know what it is but I don't like it, it's not supposed to be like this. We're a family we're supposed to communicate and help each other, not fuss and ignore one another." I ranted.
"I completely understand, I barely speak to my family. Just Normani and my sister honestly."
"I wish I was still in California, it feels like I'm by myself in this house."
"Me to, Jane. I thought the move was supposed to help."
"It clearly isn't. Oh well time to move back!"
