After becoming an orphan, Lauren was taken in by the famous Nelson family. When Ricky Nelson wasn't on stage breaking hearts, he was at home to annoy Lauren. After they get a little older, things get heated. Elvis Presley eventually has Lauren all s...
My contemplation in front of the bathroom mirror was interrupted with the knocking of the door.
"What are you doing in there? Hiding a corpse!?" Ricky shouted as he banged on the door.
"Ricky! Just wait! I'm almost done!" I shouted at him, looping my hair around my fingers to make pin curls.
He knocked on the door once again.
"Ricky! It's my turn, I was here first. You have to wait!" I angrily shouted at him.
He banged even harder on the door.
"The more ruckus you make, the longer I'll take!" I shouted at him in a sing-song voice.
"Oh no." Ricky said from the other side of the door. "You'll want to open that door."
I squinted at myself in the mirror. Then, I popped out a hip and turned towards the door. "And why is that?"
From under the door slid in the Elvis record I bought earlier. My ears began heating up, I was filled with anger.
"Ricky! You were in my room!?" I angrily shouted at him. Stomping towards the door, I picked the record up and swung the door open. Ricky smirked as he pushed past me and into the bathroom.
"Mr. and Mrs. Nelson said you were to stay out of my room!" I hissed at him, holding the record in my hand. "And you finding this wasn't an invitation to use the bathroom!"
"Too late." Ricky smirked. He walked to the toilet. I stared at his back as he stood there, his legs spread apart. He couldn't be. I thought. Oh, but he was, because the sound of liquid pouring into the toilet echoed throughout the bathroom.
"You are so gross!" I turned away from him, holding my record close to my chest.
"And you take too long in the bathroom." Ricky answered back, urinating into the toilet. I rolled my eyes and walked out of there, heading inside of my room. I sat down at my opulent vanity, then I took my Elvis 45" to admire it.
I loved Elvis so much, although Ricky loathed him. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson didn't allow Elvis' music in their house, but I always found a way to sneak it in. With a smirk, I opened a drawer and slid the small record inside.
By the time I shut the drawer, Ricky was standing in my doorway. I made eye contact with him in the mirror.
"Here to terrorize me some more?" I asked as he shut the door behind him
"I'm here to make a truce." Ricky shrugged as he made his way over. I turned around on the small stool to my vanity to face him. Then, I adjusted the fabric to my bulky night robe.
"A truce?" I asked with a risen brow. "About what?"
Ricky grinned as he stepped toward me, his hands clasped behind his back. "I won't tell Mom and Dad you bought that dirty record if you never listen to Elvis again."
"Why wouldn't you want me listening to Elvis?" I asked him in an uninterested voice. Ricky was so immature, he was always up to some new antic that I felt I never had the time for.
"Because he's hot bullcrap, that's why!" Ricky said defensively. I thought for a moment, then this all seemed too funny to me. I began to laugh, and once I saw the confused look on Ricky's face, I laughed some more.
"I get it." I said between laughs, then laughed a little harder.
"Get— get what?" Ricky asked with furrowed eyebrows as he stood there.
"You're jealous!" I laughed out, Ricky shook his head in disagreement. He'd never admit his vain jealousy about Elvis. "Elvis makes you feel insecure! You haven't had half the success Elvis has had and you've been in this business since you were a child!"
"I am not jealous!" He shouted, his face getting red with frustration. "And our television show has given us lots of success!"
"Oh no, but that's not the type of success you what. You want the type of success that has girls fainting over you. You want them handing over their panties and asking you to sign their bodies!" I insisted pointing my finger at him. Ricky got on his knees in front of me and grabbed my wrists. I was so shocked, suddenly everything wasn't funny anymore.
"I'm not jealous." Ricky stared at me in the eyes while gripping my wrists. I tried to move out of his grip, but he held on tighter. After staring my down for who knows how long, he released my hands.
"You're a nut, did anyone tell you that?" I spat at him, twisting my hand around my sore wrist.
Ricky continued to kneel in front to me. "Maybe I am, but I'm just tired of you getting everything."
"Ricky, I have nothing." I cried out. "What do I have that you don't?"
Ricky didn't have an answer for that, so he stood up. I didn't have any feelings for him at this point in my life. He was just a very annoying boy who was part of the family that took me in. I couldn't be bothered with him.
Maybe it was because I was a whole year older than him. Somehow in my mind, that made all of the difference. I always felt that I was much more mature and wise. However, just a year later I'd find out I wasn't as grown up as I imagined myself to be.
The year was 1957 and everyone was doing the Jailhouse Rock. I arose refreshed on that warm, California day. Little did I know, my life would change forever that night.
Walking out of my room, I bumped directly into Ricky. He was all dressed up to head out somewhere, his was blazer on and his button up was crisp. His long lashes slowly blinked, then his blue eyes peered down at me.

"Watch where you're going, will ya?" He asked me.
"How about you walk a little slower around the house and then I will?" I snapped back at him. He huffed then pushed his hands into his pants pockets. He looked good that night, I had to admit. The boyish exterior he used to have now matured into an exceptionally attractive young man. He was almost sexy.
But I couldn't say that. I wouldn't allow myself to.
He stepped toward me, his lashes shading his eyes. With a lick of his lips, his face was inches above mine. He was looking down at me, all six feet of him.
"I'm going out so I won't be a problem to you." He mumbled. Ricky always found himself going out somewhere. His singing career went off, especially with the help of the show. Girls around the country were losing their minds over him and Ricky was reaping all of the benefits.
Ricky began to walk ahead down the hall. My eyes crawled up his back as I watched him calmly walk.
"How about you get another hobby besides hanging out with those stuck up Hollywood types?" I grinned as he began walking down the steps at the end of the hall.
"How about you get out more instead of being cooped up inside?" Ricky asked back at me.
"That's a good idea, Ricky." Ozzie Nelson said from the bottom of the steps. Ozzie truly was the man of the house. He was nothing but nice to me while I stayed with the Nelsons.
Suddenly, Ricky stopped in his tracks on the steps. He turned around and began walking back into the hall. Ozzie followed suit.
