When the French doors to the bedroom opened, I was disappointed to see it was only Priscilla. Her brown hair was in a ponytail, her usual high-strung hair was finally relaxing. She walked over to me and sat next to where I laid on the bed.
We stared at each other for a moment, I wondered why the hell she walked in there in the first place. "Sit up." She asked of me. I squinted at her and crossed my arms.
"Come on, I'm not gonna bite." Priscilla shrugged. After obliging her request, she plopped up the pillows behind my back. Then, I leaned against them as I sat against the headboard. "I know things have been tense since I've been here."
"I'm glad you do." I said sarcastically. She looked down at her hands, she held a glass of water. Then, she reached it out to me. "What is that, poison?"
"It's just something to calm you down. I'm sure you got dehydrated being in that bathroom for so long." Priscilla smiled. I slowly took the glass from her, but I just rested it in my lap without taking a sip. She noticed by reluctance, with a pout she looked away and down at her lap. "I knew you still lived with Elvis. The whole world knows... I just didn't want to accept that you and him were happy."
"Well we are and it would be best for both of us if you left." I told her in a stern voice.
"I'm sorry if I ever made you feel uncomfortable in your home." Priscilla shook her head, she actually seemed sorrowful. "And I'm especially sorry if I tried to cause a rift between Elvis and you."
I pierced my lips shut. Then, resting my head back on the wall behind me, shut my eyes a bit. I truly was tired from that long and extensive day.
"Why don't you drink some of that water?" Priscilla asked. Looking down at the glass, the water was clear and unsuspecting. After Priscilla's speech, I truly believed that was her attempt at making a truce.
I drank the water, but to my dismay, immediately spit it out. The sheets in front of me where soaked from the water I just squirted. Priscilla began to laugh heartily.
"Elvis!" I shouted. Then, I dropped the glass onto the carpeted floor. Grabbing Priscilla by the collar, she leaned in as she laughed.
"Oh please, you think he's really gonna believe you? All he's gonna see is a spill in the bed and on the floor and get upset." Priscilla laughed. I let her go and she sat back up, laughing. "That's the last time I'm going to do something to you, Lauren."
"It sure is because you're going to get the hell out of this house!" I shouted at her. Priscilla laughed more, staying calm and confident.
"You see, Elvis already doesn't trust you. After that story broke he felt you were unable to keep a secret." Priscilla shrugged. "And Elvis hates the way you treat other people. He hates women who aren't kind and warm... or motherly."
"Motherly? Honey, you think you have those qualities?" I asked her, but Priscilla put up her finger to shush me. I quickly swatted her hand away. "The last thing you're going to do is that!"
"Elvis always knew it was a gamble to take you in, your behavior proved him right." Priscilla smiled. "I mean, locking yourself in a bathroom for attention? Get real."
"That's not what Elvis thinks. He knows I didn't lock myself in that bathroom!" I shouted at her.
Priscilla looked to me out of the sis dog her eye. "That's not what he told me."
"You can see Elvis, you can sleep with him and run around to your heart's content. I give you my blessing." I squinted at her. "But don't come in my house and try to ruin my relationship. Let himself tire of you, get your money and be gone!"
"Tire of me?" Priscilla asked, then with a smile she shook her head. "He's tired of you."
I rolled my eyes, I didn't know what this girl's problem was. But then, she stood up from the bed, turned to me and gave me and evil smile. Getting on her knees beside the bed, she pulled something out from underneath it.
It was a tape recorder.
Sitting back down in her spot, she placed the recorder between us and hit play.
"All I know is that I made a big mistake. It was horrible for my family, my career. All of that." Elvis' voice boomed out of the speakers.
"Elvis, I don't care what happened. I'm here now and I want you to make love to me." Priscilla said softly to him. Suddenly, the recording was quiet.
I turned my face away, taking in what I just heard. Tears began filling my eyes realizing that Elvis was going to ask me to go away.
"Oh no, it's not done." Priscilla said from behind me. "Let me help you out."
She held her finger down on the fast forward button, the tape squeaked as it sped up. Then, I was faced with the audio of Elvis' moaning and grunting during sex.
"I'll shut that off for you, it must be hard to hear." Priscilla said with an evil smile. She took the tape recorder in her hands and stood up. "I guess you should start packing now. Have some dignity."
Finally, I was full on crying. Priscilla began walking towards the doorway, but to her surprise, Elvis was standing there.
Elvis didn't look happy at all. With a scowl, he stepped toward her. His nostrils flared as he looked down at the tape recorder.
"What's That right there?" He asked.
"Something to save us!" Priscilla cried out, holding the tape recorder close to her body.
"We can't be saved, Priscilla! Give it up!" Elvis grabbed the tape recorder from her. Then, quickly walked over to the bed, sitting next to me.
"Elvis, what about Germany? What about everything that we had?" Priscilla cried out. "I can't believe you said all those things to me!"
"And I meant every word of it." Elvis mumbled as he looked to her.
"Don't play the tape for her. Don't embarrass me like this." Priscilla cried out.
"You won't have to see her reaction, you'll be way too busy packing downstairs." Elvis told her. Priscilla scowled at me, then turned around and walked downstairs to leave. I sat there, confused and upset. But most of all, I had a hatred for Elvis.
