Somewhere in the Mortal Realm.
Almost thirty years had passed in the Mortal Realm, which was merely four weeks in the Immortal realm, and Bai Qian had returned home only once to check in with her family and clan to ensure things were in good order before returning to her Mortal Realm home. Only her head was not in a good space even though so much time had passed. It may have seemed that a life time had passed, but she was so heartbroken, that she could not get through the pain of their separation, and returning before the wedding date, was not an option. Even though she had cancelled it, she did not want to be there on that date only to be reminded of what she had lost.
Forty years felt exactly the same as her own world. It was a substantial amount of time, especially being alone, though her brother did drop in from time to time having joined her for a week to talk her into continuing with the marriage agreement.
"You know Xiao Wu, Lord Pua has not once mentioned the missive you sent. It is quite possible that he is refusing it or we would have heard about it." he'd informed her having learned from her own lips that she had cancelled it.
And that could have meant only one thing. "Then he is insisting that I approach him personally?" she asked incredulously.
"I guess so."
"Well I have no intention of doing that. I have stated my reasons and I refuse to have anything more to do with this marriage alliance or the Celestial Palace." she'd replied firmly and stubbornly.
"But why? You haven't even met High God Mo Yuan. You were warming to the union, what happened?" he asked noticing a strange look on her face which he couldn't quite fathom.
For a moment, she considered telling him who her physician really was as well as her father and Zhe Yans plan to prank them along with her own and Mo Yuans plan to prank them back and the letter she had received which to her chagrin was nowhere to be found when she had returned. Mi Gu had told her that Zhe Yan visited not long after her disappearance, which meant he must have found it which was the height of embarrassment. To be thought of as an elder by the War God was not something Zhe Yan would allow to pass, especially when his own vast age was continuously thrown at him.
But Bai Zhens question confused her. He obviously hadn't been made aware of the letter which surprised her, because Zhe Yan would have normally mentioned it to him. And for a moment more, she stood staring at him while contemplating on what to tell him.
In the end she decided it really wasn't worth the hassle. If she told him, then he would talk her into meeting with him again. Bai Zhen had a way with words, he could always talk her around no matter how stubborn she got, but this time she was adamant that she was right in her decision to cut that man cleanly from her life and she had no inclination to go back on it.
"Why do I have to marry when you are older than me. If anyone should be marrying first, it should be you." she asked and steering the question away from herself and back to him, even though she knew he would never marry. Homosexual relationships were not frowned on, in fact they were a common occurrence, however same gender marriages were not allowed, but that didn't stop her from proving a point she thought was valid.
"You know why Xiao Wu. And besides, I am not the Queen of Qing Qiu, you are and you need an heir. You are not young, if you leave it too late, you may never have a child." he said only to stare bug eyed back at her as a flow of tears suddenly erupted from her eyes.
It was the worst thing he could have said. He may not have known about the letter and what Mo Yuan really thought of her, but at that moment, she could have slapped him. And the fire in her eyes as the tears flowed, soon had him backing down. These tears were not her usual ones that erupted whenever she tried to get her way, in fact she could be quite shameless with her tears if she thought they might work in her favour. And as much as he wanted to force the issue, he decided to leave it for a few days before trying again.
