The first thing she noticed when her eyes finally fluttered open, was the aroma. The smell of breakfast and one that instantly made her feel ill and that was the second thing she noticed. Her head felt heavy and her stomach queasy and breakfast was the last thing she wanted. But assuming her mother had arrived, seeing as she was long overdue for a visit, she groggily sat up.
With four weeks gone and only one week left until the wedding date which she assumed was still a given going by what her brother had told her, she gathered her mother had arrived to not only make her feel even more miserable with food she couldn't face, but to also drag her home.
Leaning across to the side table where pain relief and a large jug of water had been left for her to take, she quickly swallowed the elixir down before almost drowning herself in the water. Then rising off the bed, she dressed herself before running a brush through her hair. Her mother was always immaculately dressed and her hair in perfect arrangement, and if there was one thing she would not allow, and that was untidiness.
Taking a quick look in the mirror, she just as quickly looked away. She might have beautiful gowns and pretty hair pieces, but the drunken years in the Mortal Realm was definitely showing. Her eyes were puffy from all the crying, and her skin pale and washed out. But with a mother to face, she quickly made her way downstairs and into the kitchen.
Only the moment a forced cheerful greeting was ready to slip past her lips, the sight of him in her kitchen looking straight back at her with those same doleful eyes and soft smile that she had held in her mind for years, soon had her feet stilling in their tracks and her eyes tearing at the sight of him.
But with the tears came the anger. "What are you doing here? How did you find me?" she whispered angrily at the eyes that only seemed to droop at the corners even more.
Moving out from behind the kitchen aisle, he took a few steps towards her before stopping.
"I am here to claim back my wife. And as for who told me, Zhe Yan informed of your whereabouts." he replied as she took a step back and the anger increased.
"Your wife? After what I received from Kunlun Mountain, there will be no marriage." she snapped at him before completely losing her temper. "Get out of my house!"
Her face was a vision of rage and uncontrolled emotions. Her eyes were filled with tears that were steadily falling down her cheeks but what he noticed from the first moment when her eyes fell on him and what he could still see, was the love that had not died. Her words and even the anger said she still loved him and the helplessness he could feel pouring off her as she tried to stoically force him back out of her life, when he knew she wanted him there, soon had Mo Yuan closing the gap.
"You mean this?" he asked as the letter suddenly appeared in his hands.
Staring at the soft eyes that held her gaze and then down at the letter, a soft hiss escaped her as she quickly stepped back only to be suddenly forced forward and into his arms. The eyes may have been soft and the love for her still very much evident in the way they gently glazed over, but the force of his embrace was almost painful.
"For four weeks, I have turned every Mortal Realm upside down in search of you. Not once did you give me a chance to explain myself. Had you come to see me, I could have told you, that I did not write it, my Disciples did." he said softly but firmly.
Pulling back sharply, she stared up at the eyes that were now dark and looking very dangerous to her. His lips were drawn into a thin line and only then did she notice the exhaustion in his eyes that the soft love for her had hid until that moment.
"The boys? But why?" she asked too stunned to even consider that they would do such a thing.
"They are in love with Winter Blossom and wanted my marriage alliance with Queen Bai Qian brought to an end. And they almost succeeded." he said accusingly down at her and as he watched the disbelief and anger leave her eyes and understanding take over, he dragged her forcefully back into his arms.
