Kabanata 6

"It's cold," were the first words that came out of my mouth as soon as I realized I am once again trapped in the same place I have dreamed of in the last eight years.

The full moon is still on the same place above the ocean. Its dim light casted poorly on the ground. Huge trees were wonderfully spread across the road towering me over, caging me in the darkness.

Tinahak ko ang daan patungong dalampasigan. With that, came the freezing air that kissed my skin harshly. Tahimik ang kalmadong dagat nang maglakad ako sa tabi ng tubig.

My head looked to the right. The dark forest stood proudly like always. The path splits the trees into half. It felt as wrong as it always have. I know chills ran across my body even if I do not feel them. I do not want to go where the path goes. Pero kahit ayaw ko, talagang mangyayari at mangyayari ang dapat.

"Run." My body flinched as I heard a deep, soft voice inside my head.

I willed myself to look around, but I could not.

Did I just... hear someone?

Before I could process if what I heard was true, I was already running towards the place I do not want to be. I screamed even if I knew I was overpowered here. Sinundan ko ang daan at nagpakain sa kadiliman.

Then, came the screams and footsteps. Tinakpan ng mga kamay ko ang magkabilang tainga ko habang patuloy pa rin sa pagkatakbo–my heart pounding hard in my chest. I looked back and saw the figure chasing me.

"Run."

Napasinghap ako dahil sa lumitaw na boses.

Sino ka?!

I gasped as I tripped for the 2982nd time.

This has happened enough for me to memorize the scenes. I know this dream inside and out. There are no voices here other than the screams in the forest. I always ran on my own accord, not because someone instructed me to.

Nagulat ako nang tumayo ang katawan ko at muling tumakbo.

No.

I was not supposed to run.

For the past years I have stayed frozen in place and got dragged by the body that was chasing me.

The darkness of the forest will swallow me, then I would wake up.

But, I did not.

I am not being dragged this time.

What is happening?

I heard a guttural growl from my pursuant and that snapped me from my thoughts. For a moment I thought, nagulat din siya, but I did not stop from running.

Ngayon, unti-unti kong naramdaman ang lahat ng sensasyon sa panaginip na iniisip ko lang noon. I do not know how far I have run when I noticed the quiet.

I slowly stopped as I look from behind me even though I cannot see clearly. Narinig ko ang paghuhumirentado ng puso ko. Kinailangan kong hawakan ang dibdib ko at sumunod ang kamay ko sa naisip.

Napapitlag ako sa kilos na iyon dahil hindi ko inaasahan na mararamdaman kong para akong narito mismo. Kahit ang dibdib ko ay nananakit dahil sa takot, pagod, at pag-aalinlangan na nararanasan ko ngayon.

I completely stopped moving and did a full turn in the darkness. A warm wind swept around me and that was when I felt a tug in my heart, jolting my whole being awake.

"Run."
