Nang Magkasama
Kabanata 37
A loud ring made me jolt up. The light in my room suddenly became too bright for my sleepy state. The disorientation of disturbed sleep wrapped around me.
Napatayo ako sa harap ng canvas, the brush that was in my hand was now on the floor.
When did I drop it?
The heaviness under my eyes made me want to shut them but then... the ringing.
I walked to the desk where my phone is.
I could barely lift my feet and my shoulders sagged at the effort. I debated going to my bed or my phone, but the ringing was still going on.
So... phone.
I squinted my eyes to view the screen.
"Hello?" I murmured to the other line.
I willed myself to walk towards the lamp to turn it on. I rubbed my eyes with the back of my hand and yawned.
"You were asleep?" His rough yet soft voice asked.
I looked at my clock. It is almost three in the morning.
I dragged myself towards the door of my room and pressed the switch for the lights. My room was immediately enveloped in darkness. The only source of illumination is the lamp.
"I... was painting and then you called and then I was pulled awake," I explained with grogginess evident in my voice.
He chuckled and I heard him mutter a few words, but it was to himself. I could not understand any of it.
I dragged myself to my bed.
"Hmm... You will sleep now?" he asked from the other line.
"I will visit you later. Is that okay?"
It spread both warmth and coolness in my spirit. The whispers of a nightmare now dissipated because of the voice of the person I chase in my dreams.
"Mhmm." I shut my eyes. Maya then crawled to my side and I nuzzled her in my arms.
"Good night, Sinclair."
I nodded even if I knew he would not see me. He chuckled on the other line while the phone was slowly sliding from my hand.
His words were mumbles as I drifted to sleep, "Remember to run to me."
Hindi ko na naintindihan but if I could take away the sadness in his voice, I would.
"Soph! His hair was combed whereas mine... is in a chaotic state.
My eye bags feel so heavy because of the lack of sleep.
My dream did not help as well because the same fear is still etched in my bones and memories. Despite how it ends now, the feelings it evokes from me is still the same. I am still bothered by them.
