You love racing. You love the speed of it, you love zooming past your surroundings, the wind playing with your overalls. You love the adrenaline pumping through your veins as you rev your engine, you even love the smell of gasoline creeping through your helmet. There's just one particular downside to this specific race you've entered – the sand.

Obviously, you could've foreseen that when you signed up to this rally. You knew damn well you were going to be racing through the desert and that sand simply comes with the territory. But at this point, you're pretty sure you can just feel it all over your body whenever you move and it's not pleasant, to say the least. The rough, coarse grains rubbing against your skin aren't the worst thing to deal with, though – your hands are aching from having to brake and speed up again and again and again, your body growing more and more tired as the seconds tick by.

When you race past a group of people cheering for you, though, your smirk widens and you speed up just a little more, waving back at them as they hold their countries' flags up in the wind, their voices giving you renewed energy to continue on your way.

You're on day ten of your first Dakar Rally. You've been on your motorbike all day, making your way through the endless desert that stretches out in front of you. The sun is burning down on you, making you sweat buckets in your overalls and protective gear, but you're reassured by the fact that you've only got 50 kilometres to go. Just 50 kilometres of endless desert until you can clean and fix up your bike, then rest for a few hours, before rinsing and repeating.

Glancing over your shoulder, you spot Jungkook on his own motorbike right behind you, sand spraying up from his back wheel as he speeds up, starting to catch up to you. You smirk and quickly turn to look back in front of you, just in time to brace yourself for the enormous dune that pops up in front of you. There's a wide grin on your face as you pick up even more speed, hoping this one won't take five times to get over like last time.

You start to climb the dune without much trouble, fortunately, and you quickly move further and further up until you reach the top – and to your absolute relief, you fly over it in one go. Really, flying isn't an understatement here, and you can't help but smile when you look down at the sand below you with a wonderful sense of weightlessness.

Only a second later, however, a sudden wave of fear floods over you. Yes, you're up high and yes, it feels exhilarating – but you're up too high.

You draw in a sharp breath, your helmet preventing you from breathing in too much sand as you stay in the air for a few more seconds, the ground growing closer and closer. Meanwhile, you can only brace yourself for the very harsh landing that's coming, you can only hope you don't break any bones. You lock your jaw and take another breath, putting your motorbike in the best position you can think of to break your fall.

And suddenly, you drop to the sand with a harsh thud, one that knocks the air out of your lungs. The angle at which your bike faces the ground is off by a mile and you fall on your side with your motorbike on top of your legs, a shock of pain spreading through your limbs.

You try to sit up almost right away, groaning as your gloved hands dig into the hot sand, attempting to push yourself up. You see Jungkook approaching from afar as you try to push your bike off your legs, noticing that he's opted to drive around the dune rather than risk the ugly fall you just made – a smart choice on his part.
