Forty Two

Sabina's POV- January 2018

I let out a content sigh as Dani and I stepped into the warm lobby of the hotel Adrian and his teammates were currently staying at. 

"Do you know who he's rooming with?"

"Jonny" I answered.

He was the reason I knew they were back at the hotel.

"Is he expecting us?"

I nodded and pulled my phone out. 

"Let me hold your drink"

"You just want a sip," I said as I handed her my drink.

She smiled and took a gulp of my drink as I pulled my phone out. 

"He's college you, so you should call him"

"I've gotten better at getting back to people" I defended as I called Jonny.

It rang a total of 4 times before he answered the call.

"Hello"

"Hey, Jonny. It's me Sabina" I said.

"I take it you're downstairs?"

"Yes," I confirmed.

"I'll be right down"

"Okay, see you then" I answered.

"Bye"

After bidding goodbye I ended the call and looked at Dani.

"He's coming down," I said.

"Let's sit down and wait. If he's anything like his brother, it will take a while for him to get down"

She was right, it took about 5 minutes for Jonny to make it down. Before he made it down, Dani and I were approached by Paul and Alex who were on their way out. I admit, it was a bit awkward to see them together but I was thankful that they were acting civil with each other. 

"Well that explains why you were unable to Facetime with Adrian last night"

"Hi, guys" Dani and I simultaneously greeted.

Paul chuckled as he gave me a hug.

"Juice is going to be happy to see you"

"If he's not, it's a good thing she's staying with Amanda"

Paul chuckled.

"Have fun telling, Juice that"

He gave me one last squeeze before letting go of me.

"Hey, Beans"

Alex stepped forward and enveloped me in a hug.

"It's nice to see you"

I nodded against his shoulder and noticed Jonny making his way over.

"Sorry, it was hard to get out of the room without Juice wanting to know where I was going"

He hugged Dani first as I waved at Paul and Alex who made their way out.

"It's nice to see you two"

I smiled and accepted his hug.

"He's going to be happy to see you seeing as you ignored him last night"

"If I answered his phone call or facetime call he would have figured out I was not home" I pointed out.

"Where'd you stay last night?"

"With Amanda" I answered.

"Kessel?"

I nodded.

"Well let's go upstairs and have you surprise him"

It took about a minute to get into the elevator and up to the floor the team was staying on. Thankfully, we bumped into no one as we crossed the room because well the surprise would have been ruined. Jonny pushed the door open and stepped inside.

"Hey, Juice look who I found in the lobby"

Adrian glanced up from his phone and nearly fell off the bed as he rushed over.

"So that's why you ignored me last night"

I laughed as he pulled me into a hug.

"Surprise," I said as I kissed his cheek.

He had somehow managed to hurt his cheek right before the all-star break, and it looked to be healing well.

"This trip was actually planned when the NWHL schedule came out, your schedule just happened to coincide"

He cracked a grin.

"It's nice to see you too, Dani"

She smiled.

"Hello"

He looked at me.

"What hotel are you staying at?"

I was not staying at any hotel. 

"I'm staying with Amanda" I replied.

She wouldn't have had let me stay at a hotel.

"Can she make it to tomorrow's game?"

"No, she's got a game" I answered.

He looked at Dani.

"I take it you also have a game tomorrow"

She nodded.

"We have tickets to Monday and Tuesday's games" I informed him.

He smiled.

"So I'm having dinner with some old teammates tonight" I mentioned.

Dani chimed in.

"And you are more than welcomed to join us"

"You can bring 1 back up" I added.

Adrian looked at Jonny who chuckled.

"Where are we going?"

"Amanda is hosting dinner at her place, but I'm cooking" I replied.

"I'll go, what are you making?"

"Don't know yet, I actually have to go to the grocery store" I answered.

Adrian raised an eyebrow.

"How'd you get here?"

"I drove here" I responded.

Amanda had let me borrow her car for the afternoon while she was at practice.

"Do you guys have a curfew?"

Adrian shook his head.

"No"

Dani did.

"You should change"

Jonny chuckled as Adrian rolled his eyes and went to put on a pair of pants.

"So have you been cleared for practice?" I wondered.

He wouldn't be in New York with the team if he was going to be cleared or had been cleared for practice.

"Not yet"

I nodded and turned to Adrian who was slipping on his coat.

"What time is practice at?" I asked.

"At 10 AM" 

Same time as Amanda's practice time.

"Jonny, do you want to get breakfast tomorrow? Say 10:30ish" I offered.

"That would be nice"

"All right, I'll give you a call when I'm on my way," I told him.

He smiled.

"Sounds like a plan"
