It is 4 am and I cannot sleep. I had to get ready for work in 3 hours and there was no chance of me getting sleep. For in being Mid October, it was super hot and I was irritated with the heat. Colin was lord knows where and Miranda had spent the night at Ella's house, the bartender, I had finally caught her name. In fact, Miranda usually spent every other night there. I wasn't sure how serious they were but they had been seeing each other for about 6 months now and Miranda just seemed more upbeat than usual. I pushed open the window and hear the sound of cars whoosing by, I closed my eyes trying to get peaceful but instead I hear a smashing/breaking sound. I looked down from the 5th floor we were on and saw someone running away and I just had a feeling. I slipped on sandals and grabbed my keys. I went to where my car was parked along the street and cussed up a storm whenever I saw my side mirror was wacked off laying next to my car. It was going to be atleast a 150 to 200 dollar fix I imagined.
My morning didn't get any better. I knocked my coffee cup off the counter and burned my toast. I stubbed my toe on the kitchen table. My hair was a total mess, I had slept on it wet and now it was left and right. I straightened it and burned my index finger so I put neosporin on it and wrapped a bandage around my finger. I was going to wear a nice orange skirt with a black tank for the Halloween theme. I bought the skirt on sale a gabes for two bucks. Well it was cheap because it was ripped in the back but I didn't see that when I purchased it. So instead I just put jeans and a t-shirt on, I wasn't in the mood to get all dress up anymore. I was annoyed all over when I went out to my car and saw the damage. I threw the broken piece into the back of my car and answered my cell when I saw it was my mom, "Yes Mom" I said a little too harshly and I instantly regretted it. "Honey, are you ok?" her patient and kind voice responded. I breathed a sigh of relief, "Sorry mom..it has just been a bad morning." She told me to not let the day bring me down, that after every storm is a rainbow and I silently nodded as she spoke. I was blessed to have a mom with such understanding and wisdom.
It was hard to remain positive through that day though. Miss Vicky was sick that day so Mrs.Joy was substituting for her but her last name was a lie. She was the crankiest lady I had ever met. She didn't have a single nice thing to say all day to me or the kids. During lunch I told her that maybe she needed to not be so hard on the kids and she told me to screw off. I just sat there dumbfounded and she left the classroom to go on a smoke break. Louis had eaten his sandwich too fast and he ended up puking on the new carpet the school installed last week. Lindsey purposely dumped the blue paint on the carpet and before I could grab her stomped into it, sending splatters everywhere. Mrs.Joy's break turned into 45 minutes of being gone and I didn't say a single word to her for the rest of the day. By the time 3:30 rolled around and the parents who picked up their kids came around, I was about ready to break down in tears. I gave each parent a fake smile and wished them & their kid a good evening along with there kids.
I was surprised though to see Will walk in because usually he worked later and Mason would take the bus and get dropped off with his grandparents for a few hours. Mason let out a squeal of happiness, "DADDY!" and ran to him. Will threw him into the air and then gave him a big hug. "How was your day?" he asked Mason. "It was ok, I don't like Mrs.Joy and there was a lot of messes but-but not me,I didn't... I was good, right Miss Ann..Miss Ann. Miss A?" stuttered Mason struggling to make the long sentence. "He was very good!" I told Will, "Always is" I smiled. "Ok, so that is the saddest smile I have seen. What's wrong?" Will asked taking me off guard. "Nothing..I am good" I lied. He rolled his eyes, "Bull sh-- crap, but I have a proposal" he smirked. I titled my head and waited. "I got off Early today and I am heading home for a few hours to hang with my little guy but my parents want me to let him spend the night at their house so after 7:30 I am free. I recall a few months ago you talked about the future so.. Can I take you out for dinner now?
