The lecture hall was filled with people of all shapes and sizes. From a towering guy with a rock-like mutant quirk, to a girl with colourful skin and bug-like features, a petit boy with antlers and ears resembling a deer's, to a girl whose blue hair crackled with electricity. Everyone was chattering to their friends, buzzing with excitement and anticipation.
Miyuki pulled her hood further down, trying to block out the noise. She felt very out of place alongside rows and rows of skilled future-heroes.
She sat alone in the back row, no one sitting within a metre of her. The fact she kept mumbling to herself was probably a contributor.
'Oh well, not like this is a new thing really.'
'Just ignore them, Miyu. They're being a bunch of meanies!'
'They're not meanies, Rosie, they're just... not used to me.' Judging by the glance a girl from two rows in front gave her, Miyuki must've said that out loud again.
'Well! They shouldn't be so rude about it.' Rosie huffed.
'...yeah. Guess you have a point there, Rosie.'
'Is the exam goin' a start anytime soon or are we jus' gonna 'ave to wait all day?' Came a new voice.
'We haven't waited that long, Vivi.' Miyuki said.
'But Viola has a point! It's boring just waiting around!' Rosie chimed.
'See? Rose agrees wit' me, that means I'm right.' Viola said. 'Can't argue wit' that, huh, 'Yuki?'
'...that's not really how anything works.' Miyuki said, mostly to herself.
'Oh! Oh! The speech is starting.' Rosie said, 'hopping' up and down in excitement.
Miyuki just shook her head at the sudden shift in attitude from the girl.
Miyuki turned her attention to the front, where a bear-dog-mouse? animal was tapping a microphone. The room went silent.
"Thank you." He said.
"As you all know; this is the second entrance exam for UA's hero course. We decided to hold this exam due to certain accusations arising after the recent villain attack, along with concerns over the behaviour of certain students during the sports festival. Now, I'm sure you're all very excited for the exam, so allow me to explain the rules."
'Oh my gosh, his fur looks so fluffy. I wanna pet him!' Rosie burst out.
'I don't think that's a good idea.' Miyuki nervously chittered.
'What the hell, Pinky? You can't pet the principal of UA.' Viola exclaimed.
'Aww.'
"The exam has seven stages. In order to pass, you must either win at least three stages or survive all seven.
You survive if you haven't been eliminated when the stage ends. Anyone that survives will move onto the next stage where they'll be given another chance to win. For example, if the stage involves a race, then the first person past the finish line wins the stage and any others that complete the race after will have survived the stage.
Remember! You only need to win three of the seven stages; the order doesn't matter."
'Well, that doesn't sound too bad!' Rosie chirped.
'Alright, that's way too simple. What's the catch?' Viola said.
'Please, don't jinx it, Vivi.' Miyuki silently begged.
