chapter four: two overgrown hams & an overgrown oaf

^ aka whAT AM I EVEN WRITING AT THIS POINT ????

Saturday, December 9. 10:09 AM.

"Ellie, your phone," I woke up to Rowan's voice and a hand gently tapping my face. I scrunched my nose in discomfort and slapped the hand away. I groaned as I pushed myself up in Rowan's bed and looked around through squinted eyes to process what was happening. Rowan and I were in a jumbled mess of blankets and my phone was somewhere, ringing loudly.

I pushed the blankets off of me and crawled over Rowan, causing her to groan in aggravation. Once I was off her bed, I started looking around for my phone and eventually found it lying on the ground, near the base of her bed. I rushed to grab it and answered the call just before I could miss it.

"Hello," My voice was groggy and barely present as I spoke, but it was still understandable.

"G'morning, sleepy head," I could tell that it was Will talking on the other end and I suddenly remembered I told him to pick me up in the morning. "I'm guessing you just woke up and you're not ready?"

"You would be correct," I told him, a yawn escaping my mouth before I could try and repress it. "Are you already here?"

"No, but I'm in town, so I can be there whenever you need. Vales and I are getting breakfast."

"Without me?" I asked, beginning to pout.

"Well, I was hoping you could come... but I've called you at least ten times and I got tired of waiting." I sighed at his words, but fully understood his lack of patience with me. "I could swing by now and get you, if you want breakfast?"

"If it's not a bother... I would like that," I said, smiling sweetly even though he couldn't see me.

"If Rowan wants to come, she's welcome." I walked over to the bed and started to shake Rowan awake, but she didn't seem pleased.

"What?" she hissed, which caused my eyes to roll.

"Do you wanna go get breakfast with Will and Vales?" Rowan looked up at me and shook her head vigorously. "Why not?"

"You know how I feel about him." My eyes rolled at Rowan's words and I shrugged my shoulders in response to her wishes.

"Rowan doesn't want to," I told Will, sitting down on the edge of her bed. "You'll be here in like ten?"

"Yeah, I'll text you whenever I get there, okay?"

"Okay, I won't make you wait. See you in a second." I ended the call and rubbed my hands down my face as I breathed in deeply. "You could always end things with Andy to get with Vales." Rowan sat up and hit my arm, hard.

"Ow, you bitch," I said, pushing her back down on the bed. "I'm just stating a fact!"

"We don't talk about it, okay? I'm happy with Andy." I sent Rowan a look as I raised an eyebrow at her and she simply whimpered before covering her head with the blankets. "Don't make me doubt my choices!"

I got up as Rowan began yelling from her place underneath the blankets and started to change into the clothes I had brought in a separate bag, not much caring whether Rowan saw me or not.

"You wouldn't be able to doubt your choices if you were happy with them," I said, trying to make her admit that she still had feelings for Vales.

Vales and Rowan had been the class flirts since junior high and everyone suspected that they would end up together, with an exception of themselves. They always tried to fight the fact that they had feelings for one another, but it was glaringly obvious that they did.
