chapter twenty-three: you're hot

Friday, December 22. 11:37 am.

"Hey, you." I smiled as I answered my phone; Jamie had called me. "I'm outside."

"Okay, I'll be out in a second. Don't get too lonely, okay?" Jamie laughed at my words, but promised me he'd try his best. I ended the call and looked into my mirror. Although Jamie and I were going to be inside, alone all day, I had taken my appearance very seriously. I had curled my hair and done my makeup; my makeup wasn't much different than usual, but I had experimented with some eye shadow.

It was Christmas, after all. Why not have a little fun making a full look?

I had on jeans, a cropped red shirt, and a cream colored, slouchy cardigan.

Just before walking away from my mirror, I ran my fingers through my hair and then tussled it to give it some volume. I left my room after turning off the lights and I skipped down the steps.

"I'm leaving." I peeked my head into the living room to see everyone; Will, Mom, Dad, and Vales. They were all watching a movie.

"Have a good time," Mom said, sending me a smile.

"No funny business," Will, Vales, and my dad all spoke in unison and my eyes rolled before I made my way to the front door. I slipped on my shoes and left the house as soon as I could. As I closed the door behind me, I looked over at Jamie's car and we made eye contact which caused me to smile.

I rushed to his car and got in quickly, taking as little time as possible to lean over the middle console to kiss him. He kissed me back and laughed against my lips due to being amused by my actions.

"You look so good," Jamie said once we had pulled away; he moved back toward his door so that he could have a wider view. He took my entire appearance in and my cheeks burned as he did so.

"Thank you," I told him as I found myself genuinely appreciative of his compliment. Jamie looked down at what he was wearing and sighed quietly. He was in Adidas sweatpants and a christmas sweater. "You look good, too."

"Oh, yeah. I look fabulous," he joked as he shook his head. "Should I change once we get to mine?"

"No, silly." I laughed while shaking my head, but Jamie didn't seem to trust my answer. "Seriously, no. This is a comfy, lazy day. I just happened to wear jeans... but they're my comfiest pair."

"I guess I'll take your word for it." Jamie pulled out of my driveway and began the drive to his house. "I don't think you've worn eyeshadow since the first night I met you. It's pretty, you're good at it."

"You remember me wearing eyeshadow?" I asked him, finding that interesting.

"Of course." I watched as Jamie's head nodded at my question. "You looked really pretty... but also very cool; I liked your outfit a lot. You looked hot but you weren't showing that off... if that makes sense?"

"Did you just... say I looked hot?" My eyebrows furrowed at Jamie's words and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Yes," Jamie said, nodding his head. "You look hot right now, Ellie. I don't even like that word most of the time... but you're hot."

"I... feel like this is a once in a lifetime thing. I don't think anyone has ever called me that, and no one ever will again."

"Ellie," Jamie whined and seemed slightly annoyed with me. "Why are you so hard on yourself? You are the cutest girl I have ever laid eyes on, while also easily being sexy. I don't know how you do it, I don't make the rules, but it's the truth. And you have to realize that; you're insane if you can't see that."
