chapter thirteen: anything for my girl

Friday, December 15. 3:27 pm.

Just as my back hit my mattress after a long day of school, my phone began to ring. I sighed quietly as I propped myself up on my elbows, and I reached for my phone which I had placed on my nightstand beside of me.

After finding out who was calling, my previous mood of exhaust and annoyance turned into pure bliss.

"Hey," I answered, almost unable to wait to hear a response.

"Hi, beautiful."

"Beautiful?" I repeated, gasping in surprise. "How sweet."

"Only speaking the truth," Jamie told me. "What're you up to?"

"I just got home... I'm already in bed," I told him, laughing quietly at myself. "What about you?"

"I have a short practice today," Jamie replied. "But I wanted to call you before it started."

"What's up?" I asked, figuring he had a specific reason to call me.

"Is there anyway I could see you tonight? You're welcome to come over... or, if it has to come to it, maybe you could arrange another scandalous five minute sneak out?" A smile spread across my face at Jamie's words, and I bit my lip gently.

"You know... Will isn't home tonight, he's spending the night with Vales... I could talk to my mom, and maybe you could—"

"Wait, are you serious?" Jamie cut me off before I could even finish my suggestion, and I laughed to myself.

"You could maybe come over. I've never had a boy over before... and I would have to inform her of the situation... but it could be a possibility. If not, then I'm sure I could come over."

"Whatever you're comfortable with, I'll be down for. It's up to you, I just want to see you." My stomach was being invaded by butterflies, but I didn't mind; I liked the feeling.

"I'll text you, okay? And we'll make a set in stone plan once you're out of practice."

"That sounds great," Jamie said, clearly smiling. "I'll talk to you when I get out of practice."

"I'll be waiting," I told him. "Bye, Jamie."

"Bye, Ellie."

As soon as the phone call ended, I turned into my pillow and let out a muffled scream. I hurried to push myself up and out of my bed, and I ran out of my room, and down my stairs.

Will had at least three girls over in the last year or so, and I knew all of the rules my mom had made him follow, so as I made my way to her bedroom, where I knew she would be, I thought of what I would say to make sure she would be okay with Jamie coming over.

"You are looking determined," I jumped as I heard my mom's voice; I had run into her in the hallway. "What's up?"

"Come here." I grabbed my mom's hand and led her into her bedroom. I walked to her bed and sat down, pulling her with me. She was laughing at my actions, clearly amused. "I have something to ask you... and things to tell you."

"Okay... shoot," she said, seeming curious.

"So, I guess I should tell you things first." My mom's head nodded, meaning I should continue. "It's about the boy."

"Oh, oh!" Mom said, clearly excited.

"His name is Jamie... and he plays on North's basketball team. Vales does not like him," I got the most controversial details out of the way first. "Vales does not know that I have ever spoken to this guy... and Will didn't know, until a couple days ago. But now he knows."
