I drive across the edge of town in the midday heat in total silence. Dylan sits quietly looking out the window as we drive the skirts of town. "Alright" I say shifting the car into park and turning it off as we stare out over a huge lake "Why don't you go skip rocks or play Dylan, I've gotta talk to your sister" he nods almost launching out of the car as I turn to Kylie "There's nothing to talk about" she mumbles looking out at the lake. I sit silently until she speaks up "We both know this won't work Jack, after today you leave for tour" the corners of her mouth curl into a frown "Ill be here getting my ass kicked while you hook up with any and every girl" a laugh escapes me slightly and she turns glaring at me "I don't hook up with everyone Ky, in fact I don't hook up with ANYONE" she rolls her eyes "Ky!" I say grabbing her hand "Why can't you understand it's YOU I'm crazy about, not anyone else" she scoffs looking out the window again "because Jack, you come back from out of nowhere and sweep me off my feet just like you did before" she tenses her jaw "but this time I don't wanna be stupid enough to stick around and wait to get hurt". I feel myself start to tear up and sniff hard, as she continues to look out the window "I don't know what to do Ky" I say softly under my breathe "Give up and take me home" she calls Dylan and he comes running to the car getting in. "So are you and Jack all better now?" He asks excitedly "No Dylan, we will never be better" Kylie says harshly.
A few minuets later I pull back into their driveway and their moms car is missing "C'mon Dylan" Kylie says unlocking the door and storming into the house "You okay?" Dylan asks squeezing between the seats and over the console to sit shotgun "No, not really D, I really like your sister" he shakes his head "I don't get it! She likes you too, your pictures never left her bedside table-" "Dylan!" Kylie demands stomping her foot at the front door "I gotta go, but I know you can figure this out." He climbs out of the car "I hadn't seen her smile for months till you came back around" he smiles "thanks for that Jack, I miss Ky sometimes-" "Dylan James!" Kylie yells again "I've gotta go" he says running for the front door.
