Chapter Thirty Eight

I ended up sleeping almost all of Friday night and well into Saturday afternoon. I woke up to lots of text messages, most of them from FP who was updating me on how the stuff with the car had progressed worse as I slept. Apparently Betty had moved back home as well which I was extremely happy about.

Kicks and Fangs were now round at mine playing video games all afternoon and way into Sunday morning, ignoring our phones and the world until someone started knocking frantically on the door, distracting us. It was Sweet Pea and Jughead.

'Jackets and knives now' Jughead demanded.

'Sure' we all agreed, no questions asked.

We grabbed our jackets which already held our pocket knives and followed Jughead on our bikes to the Northside. We ended up at Bettys house.

'Please just follow my lead' Jughead begged as we walked to her front door.

We followed him as he burst through the front door. We immediately saw the threat and pulled out our knives as a threat.

'You think you two can take all of us?' Betty asked smugly.

'You brought back up. Does that mean you want me to go to the Sheriff, start making a stink?' the girl on the sofa drawled.

'That's your call, but my back up and me, we're friends with the Sheriffs son, so, whose side do you think he'll pick?' Betty asked softly.

'The Coopers are one of the most respected families in Riverdale. You two are just Centreville scumbags' Jughead backed her up.

They went back and forth for about five more minutes before the scumbags left the house and we left once we had seen them drive away.

'Party at the Wyrm!' Kicks shouted and everyone cheered.

'Hey Fangs, I'm not feeling too hot so I'm gonna head home' I told him.

'I'll come with you, make sure you get there safe' he said, 'you do feel quite warm actually' he muttered, feeling my forehead, 'come on'

He followed me home and made sure I was safely in bed before leaving me to sleep. I was woken about an hour later when dad came home to see me.

'Hey Princess, Fangs told me you were ill so I came to check in on you' he said softly 'What's up with you?'

'Head hurts, eyes feel squeezy, really warm' I muttered whilst keeping my eyes firmly closed.

'Need me to get you anything?'

'No thanks dad'

'Okay sweetie, I'll let you sleep. Give me a shout if you need anything, I've taken the rest of the day off'

I slept deeply all night and when I woke it was 11 and I had missed half a day of school. I walked into the kitchen and dad was sat at the table which also surprised me because he was normally at work at this time in the morning.

'Why are you home dad? And why didn't you wake me for school?' I asked.

'You needed the sleep but I didn't want to leave you by yourself' he explained, 'Are you feeling any better?'

'A little, my head still feels like it's burning'

'Alright Princess,. Well I have to go to work soon but you just go back to bed okay? Try and sleep it off' he told me, carefully pushing me back towards my room.

I crashed again and slept for hours, I woke up once to down a glass of water and take some tablets but apart from that, I only woke up when Sweet Pea and Fangs decided to come and cuddle in bed with me after school. I welcomed their warmth as I constantly felt cold when I was ill.

When I woke the next morning, I found out that Toni had teamed up with Veronica to free Cheryl from the Sisters of Quiet Mercy and they were now lowkey together. I was happy for them, Toni deserved to be happy for the first time in forever.

I felt better so I went to school and we had our little Swords and Serpents meeting with a surprise visit from Alice Cooper.

'I asked Jughead to thank you for me' she started, 'But I reconsidered, because I wanted to do it myself'

I was sat with Fangs and Sweet Pea, smirking as Alice tried to prove that she was on our side now.

'So thank you for what you did. I also wanted you to hear it directly from me that I am done attacking and disavowing the Southside' she continued 'It's where I'm from, and I should be proud of that. From now on, I will be, and like my daughter, I will fight tooth and nail for it'

I started clapping sarcastically after Alice finished her little speech and I stood up so I was facing her. Both Jughead and Betty went to say something, probably something to stop me but I glared at them and they backed down. Smart move.

'Your apology is all well and good Alice. But the point of the matter is that you still up and left the Serpents, you still slated us in that paper of yours. Your apology is a little too late for my liking which is why I won't be accepting it. Or your thanks' I told her with a frown on my face.

'Crystal' Betty started.

'No' I cut her off, 'Don't try and give me your usual bullshit Betty. As far as I'm concerned, you and your mom just cause my Serpents unnecessary pain and I'm not gonna stand for it anymore'

I stood up and walked out. There was no way I was gonna let Alice Cooper weasel her way back into the Serpents. Not if I could help it anyway.

For the rest of the day I tried to forget all about Alice and Betty Cooper and focus on my work and go and see my teachers from the previous day to get any of the work I had missed when I was off ill.

I dropped my things off at home, grabbed my Serpents jacket, and headed to FP's trailer in the hope of seeing him before he had to go to work.

As I was walking up the steps, the door opened and Alice Cooper and FP came out. They hadn't seen me yet, nor did they see me as they leaned in for a farewell kiss.

That fucking bitch!
