song ~ Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi

~" Now the day bleeds into nightfall
and you're not here to get me through it all
I let my guard down and then you pulled the rug
I was getting kind of used to being someone you loved."~

Jane's breaths were ragged, her hands desperately clutching her dress as she tried to run after Mike. Her eyes were wide and wild, her curls sticking to her wet cheeks as she sobbed her entire heart out. She ran down every single hallway, calling his name as if hoping that he would appear out of thin air even though deep down she knew that he was never going to come back. She looked like a mad woman, running around while crying with make up smeared down her soft cheeks soaked with tears. She did not care at all for her appearance, simply running faster as if it would bring him back to her.

"Mike?" she called desperately, her voice turning into a screech, "Mike!"

She wanted to go back in time, back to when her heart rested peacefully on his chest. She wanted to go back to the moment where she could hear his excited little heart fluttering inside of his chest, nervous that she was so close to him. She wanted him to smile at her again, the kind of smile that made her feel like everything was okay and that it always would be.

She needed him, but he wasn't there.

Jane turned the next corridor, feeling herself bump into some very familiar faces. Their eyes widened at her tears, the crazy look in her eyes as she sobbed to herself. One set of eyes was not surprised, simply filled with slight anger to cover up the pity. Lucas, Dustin and Will exchanged panicked looks, immediately rushing towards Jane who was looking at them with pure and utter desperation.

"Jane, what is it? What's wrong?" Lucas asked, his eyes scanning her worriedly. Dustin placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, his eyes filled with nothing but kindness and pity. Will stepped closer, a sad smile on his face as if encouraging her to speak, unaware that all of their comfort just made her feel worse. She needed someone to hold her, someone to understand her, but the person that she needed was not there anymore.

"D-Did you see M-Mike?" she whispered pleadingly, her lip wobbling.

Dustin shook his head sadly. "No...did something happen? Did you have a fight? Did Mike hurt you? I can beat him up if you want...well, I'll try..."

Jane opened her mouth but Max cut in, scoffing slightly as she noticed the look of concern in their eyes. Jane looked at her pleadingly, as if hoping that she would be there for her best friend just this once, but Max simply set her with a stony cold look.

"No, this is all Jane's fault. She has been playing Mike all along for a stupid game with Troy Harrington" Max shook her head, looking down in disappointment.

"P-Please-"

"No" Max's voice was sharp. "Don't expect me to be there for you, I already told you that you won't have me to rely on anymore. I told you it would end up like this, I knew from the second that you told me that Mike would end up hurt. Deep down I knew that you wouldn't care about him enough to do anything about it...you can't expect me to fix everything, Jane. You are the one who started all of this..."

Dustin's hand slowly dropped off Jane's folder and his eyes turned sad. "Is it true, Jane?"

Her sob told them everything, them all instantly looking at her like she was a stranger. It hurt more than any possible words that they could have spat at her. Jane looked around pleadingly, watching Max scoff before walking off, Lucas hesitating before following her down the hallway. One by one, they all left her and disappeared down the hallway, Will shaking his head in disappointment as Dustin stared at her with a hurt expression.
