Jane held in a groan of frustration as Mike ignored another obvious attempt to grab her hand. She left the small hand dangled between them, purposely stretching her fingers out so that they brushed his every few moments. Instead of intertwining their fingers like every other boy would, Mike mumbled an apology every few seconds and created more distance between them.

It drove her crazy.

She spent the entire bike ride there, teasingly nudging her bike against his but the most she got out of him was a nervous smile. She huffed under her breath, knowing that she needed to get closer to him despite how annoyingly oblivious he was. She listened to their discussions the entire ride, typical nerdy topics such as the AV club meetings and the latest video games. Jane simply stared at Mike, secretly enjoying how his face flushed every time she edged her bike near his. It could have been the cold wind, but she hoped that it wasn't.

As they went to sit down in the movie theater, Dustin nearly spilled his popcorn because he was so excited. Mike laughed and grinned, going to sit down next to him, in the middle of Dustin and Will, until Jane tugged his hand back.

"You okay?" he frowned slightly, looking down to where her fingers were clasped around his wrist.

"This seat is better" Jane pouted, nudging to the seat next to hers.

Mike was confused, his eyebrows scrunching up and she would have found it cute if she wasn't so irritated by his obliviousness. "But-what? They are all the same, El..."

Jane's cheeks felt warm with joy as he uttered the nickname softly. Softness unknowingly crept into her eyes and he saw them lighten up like an even lighter shade of sticky caramel. Jane sighed, stepping forward and looking deep into his eyes so that he would get the message.

"I want to sit next to you" she spoke firmly, a small smile on her glossy lips.

His eyes softened slightly but there was still hints of confusion hiding out in the dark orbs. "Oh..." he breathed, searching her eyes for a moment before letting her pull him in the direction of their seats.

She noticed Mike slapping Dustin's head playfully, and she wondered what comment he must have said to get that reaction. She hoped that it was about what a good couple they made, because the sooner she got this over with, the sooner she could go back to her old ways and make Troy sorry that he ever insulted her. More than anything, she just wanted to prove that maybe someone could love her.

After smiling and finding herself genuinely enjoying Back To The Future, Jane almost lost track of the plan, her eyes going back to Mike beside her. She held in a quiet giggle at how wide his eyes were as he gripped onto the edges of the armrests for dear life, his eyes following every movement on the big screen like the typical dork he was. She found herself smiling and then looked down to his hand beside her, the hold tight on his arm rest. Blowing a brown curl out of her face, she bit her lip and edged her hand nearer to his, worried that he would push her away or yell at her. Most of all she was worried that her plan wouldn't work and that she would know that Troy had been right all along.

Jane took a deep breath and grabbed his hand that was holding onto the armrest, ignoring his automatic panic to retract his hand back to his lap. She snatched it back quickly, feeling it relax before she linked their fingers together. His hand was warm and soft, almost twice the size of hers with slender fingers. She felt his eyes on her but ignored the, continuing to let a smile twitch at the edge of her lips as she watched the movie.

Her smile soon fell as Mike snatched his hand away in a panic, moving it back to his lap where he played with his fingers nervously. She didn't dare to look at him, her face burning with humiliation and slight anger.
