Liana
Oliver went back to his hotel around Midnight. I wanted to ask him to stay, but I was not sure if that would make sense since I said to take things slowly.. I don't want him to get the wrong idea either.
As the night passed by within the blink of an eye and the morning sun was shining brightly. I was all nervous and ready for the interview. I looked at my reflection on the mirror and stared at my now glowing face, not sure why? And a little smile tuck on my face, I took a deep breath and motivated my self that even if I do not get the job. What really matters is that I need to impress not only them, but also myself. I want to be confident enough about myself and my work.
As I walked to the office I looked at the busy people walking passed me, some speaking on their phone as they walked with their bags and some students walking around. Some rushing to get inside the subway and I thought to myself, time does not stop for anyone. Everyone is trying to beat the rival, time. I walked in to the building, it is only a tall building most probably 35 floors, it is covered with glass. As I entered and looked around. I missed the environment, working in the office. It is busy, not noisy- only the elevator is crowded. The lights coming from all over made the place looked beautiful.
I walked to the receptionist, signed up for coming up and went to the designated floor for the interview. As always, interviews are filled with hopeful people just like me to land for a job. The place was nothing like the last interview I had at Comic Centre, the place is smaller as it only have one building and it was crowded. I was so glad when it was my turn for the interview and it was one on one basis interview and I felt all the more pressurized. They must have sat here long as they looked emotionless and bored.
"Liana Parker?" One of them said as they looked at my applications and my resumes. "How are you doing today?"
"Good, thank you." I said as confidently as I could muster.
"It says you were working at Comic Centre, why did you leave that job?" The other woman asked curiously as she eyed me.
"I moved to Seattle due to personal reasons." I said. "Which is why I had to resign." Of course, what else will I tell them? That my boyfriend owns that company and I left one of the best company because I felt that I was in the company because of him and not because of my hardwork even though Oliver said he did not do anything. I just felt pressurized at that time and made that decision.
She 'hmm' not expecting that answer. "It says you also have experience as a Comic Artists."
"Yes. I do some online Comic uploads." I said. I really did not wanted to bring that up, but now I did I wanted to take them back.
"That sounds interesting." The man said looking interested. "Would you like to share your work with us?"
"My work is still in progress." I lied to them. I did not want to reveal how successful my work in online is because what I do online is something that I want to keep it private.
"So, why choose the Platinum Publishing house? It's not fully involving comic books." The woman who spoke first said.
"I decided to apply here seeing that the company needed an experience employee who can help them design their book cover, so I decided to go for it." I said.
"You decided a change in career?" The first woman challenged with the question. "A cover design and a comic Artists are two different things."
"I know, but I do have some experience when it comes to designing the book's cover. It may not have to do with drawing many things, but I can help with the selections and designs."
"We can get help from our current employees for selecting designs, so you want to explain to us how you joining our company will be useful?" She said.
I think this woman speak like this all the time as I noticed the two people just give me apologetic looks and waited for my answer.
"I can design the best cover using my Artistic skills." I said.
"Some authors prefer pictures rather than drawing, so what will you do about that?" She said smirking.
"It is the rights of the Author to choose their cover for their books because they are the one who created the story, but putting a picture and drawing a picture especially for the book is two different things, when you draw-you can use the Author's imaginations and writings into pictures, while clicking pictures it says a lot, but wouldn't drawing make more sense, considering that the Author wants the readers to imagine and drawing is another way of telling a story?" I said looking at her straight in the eyes.
The room felt into a deep silence and I can sense the sudden rise in the atmosphere. The other two sat up and was waiting in anticipation for what to come next.
"Photos do tell a story too." The woman fired back and I smiled.
"I never said it does not, drawing is imaginations while photos is planned with ideas or maybe by accident. When I mean drawings, I literally did not mean drawing every single thing, but something that attracts everyone and draws everyone's attentions. As someone who wants to do the cover for Authors' it is my duty to read the book and understand what the Author wants and expect in a cover picture to make a successful cover. It brings another light to the already success."
And the next thing I heard was loud clapping from the man sitting next to the woman and then the other one too started clapping while the woman who challenged me, she smiled, an impressed smile written on her face.
I may not get this job because I have lack of experience, but I made it through the interview and I felt relieved washed over me. Before I left, the woman called back and said, "Liana Parker, you did great!"
And I thanked her and exited with a satisfaction look and ready to call Oliver and ready to meet him.
