Once my Tio's snoring echoed through the house again, I began to pack a bag.
I grabbed my luggage from out of my closet and threw a whole bunch of clothes in it. I made sure to pack my phone charger, headphones, hair & body products, toothbrush, and a pair of sandals. Once I was done packing, I zipped it up and placed it near my door.
Sneakily, I opened my door with a Nike sack in my hand and tiptoed to my mom's room. I quickly went into her closet and found the secret compartment on the side of the wall, opened it and took out a big black suitcase.
"06-08-12," I read aloud as I put in the code, successfully opening it.
Inside of the suit case were wads of cash, birth certificates, security card, pas ports, basically all our personal information. I grabbed my passport, holding it in my mouth as I stuffed some cash and my ATM card in it. The money was supposed to be for "EMERGENCIES ONLY" but I know my mom sneaks in some cash to buy most of her jewelry so I think it's fair for me to take some of my own.
I quickly sealed the bag and was about to walk out, taking the passport out of my mouth until I noticed my Mom's necklace was on her nightstand. Maybe it could be protection? Before I can overthink it, I grabbed it and put it on.
I threw on the sack behind my back as I closed my Mom's bedroom door gently and headed back to my room to grab my luggage and phone.
Before I could back out of my plan, I dialed the number and waited patiently for the person to answer.
"San Francisco International Airport, how may I help you?" a sweet feminine voice asked along with people bickering in the background.
"Hi, yes, what is your nearest flight to Sicily, Italy?"
